2) George II sixpences 1728-1741 date run, all types in EF.

3) George III half guineas by date

4) Roman denarii by deity

5) Roman denarii by Emperor (Augustus to Domitian)

6) King Stephen (1135-54) pennies by substantive type

And of all those collection only 4 and 7 are cheap.

1. Morgan silver dollars complete set

2. Complete Lincoln set (including 1922)

3. Franklin half dollars complete set (FBL is preferred)

4. Anything German focusing mainly on the Third Reich and earlier.

5. Barber half dollars.

6. Indian Head cents.

7. Polish coinage

8. Austrian coinage.

9. Goetz medals (most recent area).

10. Basically anything else that interests me. I'll collect anything that has to do with coins or notes. I try not to stick with just one or two areas, too boring!

Numbers 2, 4, 7, and 8 are relatively easy to do. Seeing as foreign coins are a fraction of the cost of U.S. coins, I get more bang for the buck. The Lincoln cent set is down to about five coins.......the most expensive ones too. :ninja:

ummm, can you explain this to me, Tiff??  what does Latin American countries have to do with Portugal??  or did you mean Latin Union countries???

I'm pretty sure she meant "Ibero-American"... :ninja:

Portuguese coins are common (very easy and cheap collection to do by type), there's plenty of them to everyone!!!

BTW, have you noticed that some Angola coins also use that 4/5/10/20 centavos type bust? ;)

Let's see, my main "areas" in the last years in numismatics were (no particular order):

1. Portuguese type since Carlos I (done)

2. Maria II silver coins (these were actually designed by Wyon)

3. Large Portuguese X reis

4. Historical Portuguese types (older stuff)

5. Italy

6. Japan

7. Mexico

8. World circulation XXth century coins by type

9. World gold (1850-1933), one by country with a weight of about 1/5 or 1/4 oz.

10. Anything if i really, really, really like it...

Jose ;)

What? Did I offend you? :ninja: I actually didn't mean to put the American in there. I lump Spain and Portugal into my "Latin" collection.

You want a list from 1 to 10, you get a list from 1 to 10 ... :ninja:

1. Coins from the Federal Republic of Germany, by year (but not mint mark).

2. Euro and pre-euro coins from the other euro countries, by type only.

3. German coins other than those of my country (ie. pre-1949 pieces, GDR coins, etc.); type only.

4. North American coins 20/21c (primarily circulation pieces); type only.

5, 6, 7: Coins from Europe other than 1 to 3; only what I like.

8, 9, 10: Coins from the world other than 1 to 7; hardly any "active" acquisitions.

And then, I like "coins on coins", and also commems from different countries that are dedicated to the same occasion. No need to be "complete" here though ...

Not offended, just confused. I thought maybe there were some teutonic plates shifting that I didn't know about and Iberia drifted over to Nicaragua or something. Not that it would be a bad thing. Maybe then Andorra could have some nice beach-front property.

Yes, he is right. You don't want those, save you money for better things, in fact nobody wants Portuguese coins.

Back to the question, I think I am asking for an impossible quest, which is to collect these:

1) Type set of Imperial coins (very impossible) Sorry Ykpa, gotta conflict with yours there :ninja:

2) Type set of Soviet coins (very doable but very expensive, thanks to recent precious metal price hike)

3) Odd metals excluding precious metals (or it will get too expensive)

4) Odd denominations (i.e. Dual denominations)

5) Dual languages or even more

6) Counterfeit coins that actually made it into circulation and how they went unnoticed

7) Ridiciously unpopular coins (why not? ;) )

8) Nice examples of cheapo world coins

9) Huge chunk copper plates will be nice too and...

10) Portuguese coins ;):lol::cry:
