Question about strange 1736 silver ruble

Recommended Posts

Hi, I saw a strange coin at a dealer last month. It was like the 1736 silver ruble but the edge was thick and the whole coin was 45,5 mm in diameter instead of the normal 40. Anyone seen something like that? Andersson

Seems unusually too big. I have a 1736 ruble coin but the diameter is at 41mm. I have an overstruck ruble but it's only at 43mm. 45.5mm is definitely large. On top of it, a thick edge would make much less sense as if it is indeed overstruck, the edge would be thinner, not thicker.

Photos will definitely help.

I agree, but it is not ex. jewellery, it is still a jewellery - the coin is in the bezel. The edge is not a part of the coin itself.
