Starting in Numismatics

Recommended Posts

The Charlton books on Canadian Coins have long been my favorites. They're readily available and reasonably priced. Packed with information they're great reference works. I have read the intro sections for some coin types like nickels, especially the info on the tombacs. Must have books but not an easy Saturday evening read.

Some of the Red Books on US coins have a bunch of good general information and an article on some aspect of coins that many find interesting. I'd also check out the NGC and PCGS websites. Loads of info there.

Have fun and bring your questions here.

You will have to decide on your goals for collecting. Is this an investment type thing? Circulated sets for fun? Mint products only - with Canada that's extensive. One series? Current coins across the board? One period of time?
