Very nice. Please on the bread tokens, were they used to purchase bread only? Did the bakery issue them and you could only get their bread if you had their token? Adaptation for change shortage? I don't understand the usage of them.

These are lovely! I only have one of these myself, a Ville de Besançon 10 centime piece from 1917, but it's been a favorite ever since I got it -- it's just so beautifully sculpted. And I really should get better pictures of it.

Very impressive collection and such an interesting subject!!! Thanks a lot for sharing with us!!!

Could you tell me, please, how did this token system actually work? Was it a partial (or full) payment by tokens to workmen their salary, or, they were needed to buy the items, first, and then make payments using the tokens? Any information about token payment systems you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

skouznet, thank you for your interest in this topic and questions on it.

During this period, France lacked in coins of small denomination.

Of course, these coins were issued for employees of companies that were given to them as part of wages.

Usually in large enterprises and organizations opened their internal shops, canteens, cafes...

In addition, many public cooperatives handed tokens for bread to large and low-income families (municipal social program).
