A neat theme - come to think of it - Japan seems to issue more commemorative Expo coins than anyone else.

 

we're up there as well like 3 to 4 expo coins

 

as for an explaination i'll try to

the first set is Tokyo Olympiad Okinawa was chosen as the entry point for the Japan leg for the relay

at that time Okinawa was a US Territory

 

Expo 75 Okinawa offical return to Japan. (theme The Sea would you like to see) Japan Pavillion is the 3rd largest Aquarium

The handover was year earlier for Expo 74 Spokane

The logo is now the flag

 

Expo 85 Tsukuba (Science City) THink of it as Silicon Valley

Most fo the pavillions were for Japanese companies (60 nations)

HRH Emeror Akihito was head of the Expo

 

Expo 70 first world's fair in Asia the comm coin was only available at the expo just like the others

the logo is designed after a cherry blssom each petal is for each continent

 

Saporro 72 First Winter Games the coin is the actual Cauldron used for the games

HRH Emperor Hrohito is 1 of 3 World leaders to open an Olympic GAmes 2 times

 

Expo 2005 Aichi A first since it was named for a Prefecture not a city nearest area was Seto

This Expo has a tie in with a with a popular Anime My Neighbour Totoro
