I have been lucky enough to find an example and didn't realize how hard it is look for such example. Most of the examples of this particular year that I have seen online are corroded and are not common at best. This is probably one of the better examples that I have seen. This has a nice die crack and has a minor die rotation error. Presenting 1771 1 para - 3 dengi GXSERIES, In the text "DENGI" looks different from originals I see before.Possible re-engraved or ...?. The original legend "ВАЛАК." was used for coins 1771 and 1772. However very few pieces were struck with this legend as "ВАЛОСК." became the standard. As such, there is no such coin with the "ВАЛОСК." legend for 2 para - 3 kopek. As of how scarce it is, I reckon for every one of 1772 "ВАЛАК." I have seen, I would have seen at least 30 - 50 "ВАЛОСК." of such. 1771 is much scarcer - probably around 2 - 3 times harder. Again, it is a rough estimate so I could be quite wrong. Mind you, I swear I would have seen at least 100+ of such para coins for starters and I was hunting down one for years. I got very lucky with the 1771 para. I have to admit - I cannot see the difference with the "dengi". I don't think it has been re-engraved - would like to know where specifically you are looking at. It might be to do with the poor photography or angle. At the same time, I would not be too surprised if varieties exist even for such a small batch... Variety exist: line short/long,numbers from date "1771" on different level . Reverse: Looks like some discoloration and written value relef on highest level then usual.Possible re-engraved because corrosion around the letters or try increase relef. I recommend to used microscope or magnifier x9+ and play from different angle and see if it was tooled. Obverse: die break , soft struck and looks ok. gxseries Posted July 18, 2016 Author Report Share Posted July 18, 2016 Hello rarenum, I'll have another look at the coin. From the photos, it doesn't look like there is corrosion. There is a bit of discoloration and I believe it's just due to the storage. I admit that I didn't quite understand what I was looking at and there does seem like a bit of haloing around the dengi characters. It may be possible that the dies are different. The bottom of the number 3 just looks completely different and therefore I am certain there were at least two different dies used for the production of this coin. If you look at the year "1771", mine seem to have the years close together and the second 7 slightly larger than the first. Clain-Stefanelli Collection and I see at the auction preview ,it is only one reason I didn't bid because the corrosion on 7 o'clock and it is normal for type because metal was used from melt cannon, I'm always looking for specimen... I love die varieties and errors , collect some type of 18th century by the dots and if in my opinion coin is very rare. I can buy double and triple if the price is right. m-dv is great online site ,should be careful because it is only for record price reference.
