gxseries
Just obtain a rather unusual coin - a time when Yuan Shi Kai wanted to be the Emperor but as he didn't gather enough support, this era only lasted for a mere 83 days. Pretty neat. More can be read here: http://ykleungn.tripod.com/h-shuan.htm http://www.wikicoins.com/First_Year_of_Hung_Shuan_Ten_Cash_Coin My example seem to be struck on a flawed planchet and the holes were filled with epoxy. Still not a coin that I can replace the next day.
Art1.2
Interesting coin. The filled holes are unusual and make me wonder if someone was making a spinner out of the coin.

Roger
Coins and currency from short term leaders always catches my attention. Looks as it Yuan Shi Kai lasted just a little while longer than Didius Julianus of the Roman Empire in AD193-- I think he made if for just over three months. Looks like he made a fatal error in devaluing the currency. Here is a little excerpt form wikipedia--- "Upon his accession Julianus immediately devalued the Roman currency, decreasing the silver purity of the denarius from 87% to 81.5% — the actual silver weight dropping from 2.75 grams to 2.40 grams. After the initial confusion had subsided, the population did not tamely submit to the dishonour brought upon Rome. Whenever Julianus appeared in public he was saluted with groans, imprecations, and shouts of "robber and parricide. The mob tried to obstruct his progress to the Capitol, and even threw stones." ccg
YSk is an interesting character since he was the one who basically engineered the downfall of the Qing regime, to be replaced by a Republican government which he soon had turned into a rubber stamp mechanism for him, the all mighty President, who aspired to be the Emperor.
