That wouldn't be fun to lose one! Of one of the last coins Heritage sold: 1882 $5 PR63 PCGS. A mere 48 proofs were struck in 1882, and of that number it is estimated that probably fewer than 20 are known today. The Garrett-Guth reference states, "Of these, at least three are in the museum collections of the Smithsonian Institution and the American Numismatic Society." Dealers and collectors recognize the rarity of this date as a proof and have been willing to pay the premium it commands.
