This penny was minted whilst Oliver Cromwell was Lord Protector and was minted at the London mint. The "I" above shields signifies the denomination. St George's Cross and Irish Harp intertwined. Absolutely stunning coin.
Ætheling
You know I've had many British/English coins from medieval upwards, most issues from most monarchs have work their way through my collection be it for a few days or many years but strangely I've never owned one from the Republic era. ccg
The if the cross wasn't on a shield, that penny could probably pass as a 4th century Roman piece.
