OMG I originally posted this as if it was a fake but had to edit before anyone saw it - this note turns out to be real!

George Best 5 GBP note

The News Story

Quite an interesting note, if you are a football fan. The reason I was shocked in the first place by the sight of this note with several bids on it up to about 7.50 was that there are also numerous fake money notes featuring George Best as well as many other famous people. These fantasy notes are quite common on ebay...

Yep. I remember some other members mentioning this note a year ago or so. I had no idea who he was til those posts and now I realize he's about as popular as the beatles!

Deadpoint - yup, contemporary with the Beatles and a very great football player of natural skill who ruined his life by killing his liver. He was also a bad influence on the younger generation, which can be said of many stars who are idiolized ...

BTW none of the Scottish or Northern Irish notes are legal tender, they were only briefly during WWI and WWII, otherwise they are just promissory notes that are commonly recognised as acceptable means of payment. The only legal tender notes in the mainland UK are the Bank of England notes, and they are only legal tender in England and Wales.

OMG golf -that's one of those games where nothing ever seems to happen, like cricket.. :ninja:

I know, I get a kick out of televised golf programmes, how the hell one could sit through that is beyond me. I like fast action sports, B-Ball, Hockey, Arena Football etc.

Like chess ;)

Chess on TV, now that would be da bomb... As my friend Cnut would say. ;)

:ninja:

I play golf quite often and love it, but I don't like watching sport on television unless it's football, F1 racing or running, otherwise it's just boring! ;)

Hmm talk about jumping the gun a bit; for the thinking man there is a lot of action during agame of chess, in the analysis and the ideas behind the moves - what is there to golf but watching some old guys swing aclub at a ball and try and put it down a hole?? ;) That's plain awesome... ;)

I do play chess frequently but am not very good at it, golf I also play frequently but I am good at it! Hey, we're not all old... Golf is a 'sport' to socialise whereas chess is a 'sport' to think and use the brain.

Clive.
