coinzip
In 1830 there were an estimated 4,764,800 Bust Half Dollars Minted 15 Obverse Dies & 20 Reverse Dies were used to produced 23 different Die Marriages. Do you know what Die Marriage this 1830 Bust Half is?
YeOldeCollector
I don't know but what I do know is that it is a nice looking coin! Is that AT? Clive.
cestrin
Sorry for my nubile question but I've seen the abbreviation "AT" being thrown around. What does that stand for?
thedeadpoint
Aritificial toning. That means the colors on the coin aren't natural but created using chemicals or some other process. Personally, something looks fishy about that coin's toning. I think it maybe cleaned then artificially toned. Otherwise, great looking coin. Can't wait to hear about the die marriage. Vfox
No clue on which dies were used, but it's a nice half, and has a nice die clash on the reverse just like an 1830 I own.
jtryka
Looks like an O-105 to me, small 0. Mine is an O-118, similar drawing of the stars to the edge. The toning does not look odd to me at all, as I have at least 3 coins with similar toning patterns, often after a coin was cleaned long ago and placed in an envelope or Wayte Raymond album, that sort of toning would develop. coinzip
It is my opinion that this tone was caused by an album, was the coin dipped before being place into the album? Most likely it was, but I like the looks and that's all that matters to me.
jtryka
Any update on the variety?
bustchaser
It is 105. Probably dipped and retoned in album. Hey Jeff, does your post above mean you decided to keep collecting after all? If so, then GREAT!!! Even if it does mean I can't stea---err---buy a certain 1809.
acanthite
It looks to me to have been harshly cleaned, and has either AT or album toning. I don't know Overton numbers well enough to give an opinion on that.
