Frustrating

Recommended Posts

I've noticed over the last couple years that there really is no place for Canadians to get expert advice on Canadian coins, errors, varieties etc. There really seems to be very little attraction which shows when you look through websites trying to find info on errors/varieties. Even the Canadian coneca page is old and outdated, I think I read on the bottom of the page...last updated 2004 :ninja: , I even emailed Patrick Glassford to let him know of a rotated die cent I found...never heard a word. I'm not ditching anyone on the forums ...I know that if anyone has info they help. I just wish that Canadian coin collectors that are experts would have a forum or site that we could access. Maybe this should be in the whining thread. ;)

Maybe you need to start a website --- Canadian Coin People or just send emails to all the Canadian collectors you know and get them to be more active here.

I'm not very good on the computer Art so starting a web site would be more than I could take on. Finding Canadian collectors seems a task in itself and it seems there is very little interest when it comes to error/variety coins amongst Canadian Numismatics or perhaps I just don't know where to look.

For whatever reason the Canadian coin community isn't really a group - it sometimes seems like an activity which everyone does on their own.

Even here on CP, I remember seeing several members from BC / WA and most disappeared after a few posts. Perhaps Canadian collectors are internet-shy?

Not a ton of things, but a handful to get you started.

Click on Varieties to get a few more, and there there's:

I'm just waiting for the fifth edition to come out. It was supposed to be available last month, but I haven't heard anything yet.

Or they are actually Germans. :ninja:

What could be right however is that American collectors are more interested in errors and varieties than collectors elsewhere. Don't know about Canada but it's certainly true for much of Europe.

Try here (my club's web site). As I have been researching things for myself, if I had trouble finding anything I would keep going until I found it, then I wrote an article and put it on my coin club's web site. Included in the Articles page is a photographic guide to grading Canadian coins, a list of Canadian coin varieties and a LOT more:

That's a nice site and I'd encourge folks to take a look at it. The presentations scheduled and past would make nice additions to the site as things people could browse/download. It would be nice to have them posted here. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of assistance.
