Wow, fascinating stuff!

May I ask where you bought it, and for how much?

Thanks :ninja:

I went to an auction in Canberra and bought 5 lots of world coins

1 lot was 12 to 13 kilo all loose in a cardboard box - someone had just emptied a whole stack of coins into it - I paid 120 AUS on spec for it - 10 bucks a kilo. It had a lot of Greek, Bulgarian, Czech, Albanian and Yugoslavian coinage along with a stack of Queen Victoria pennies. But amongst all the small copper coinage was a lot of 19th century European coinage. As well I managed to pull about 40 Russian coins (all 20th Century 5,10,15,20 kopeks with a 5 rouble and 50 rouble from the 1990s)

2 other lots were just 4 kilo world lots in small containers (biscuit tins) - lot of French stuff and a good spread of African and south east Asian with some early American/Philipines coins. Paid 30 for one and 45 for the other

The last two were hand made wooden boxes with coins sorted into plastic ziplock bags _ I knew there was a 1834 5 Kopeck in there so I really had a bit of competition and paid 90 for that box. The big surprise was teh Hawaiian 1/4 dollar which paid for the box by itself. I haven't really got to it yet but first glance there would be 2 to 300 dollars worth of coins in there - lot of 19th century britain and europe silver and copper.

The last box I haven't had much of a look at yet but they all looked Unc - general european and and some nice Egytian and Turkish silver coins that look about Ef or at least good VF. There is a 20 Qirsh I spotted, think it was 1902

I probably have culled about 6 kilos of British Copper and Bronze that I haven't looked at yet - a lot of it is rubbish for the smelters but even at copper bullion price I can't lose.

Thanks for the identification of the 10 Kurus.

I am still soldiering on - haven't even got to the good stuff yet but keep coming across interesting coins in some cases from countries I have never heard of like South Arabia.

but yemen was in it 100% :ninja:

Yup. See this map:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Federat...thArabiaMap.jpg

That map shows today's Yemen in green, blue and red. The coin is from the "Federation of South Arabia" which later became part of the People's Republic (South Yemen) and, in 1990, of unified Yemen. Somewhere in my collection sits the very same type - no idea when or where I got it. ;)
