I wonder why. Certainly the 1760's Catherine II rubles were better struck than the later 1780s coins. That has always seemed strange to me. (this one is actually pictured in that catalog, unlike the 2 Peter I roubles I posted before. No wear absolutely, but on the scan it looks like crap. It's extremely difficult to find an exellent example and I wonder why I can get earlier rubles in much better grades than what I can find in this series.
