  1. The Swiss 20rp, being cupro-nickel, can (along with Panaminian coins, which follow US coin specifications) pass a sorting machine (Coinstar or like) and thus end up being introduced into circulation.
  2. If you could provide a photo and specifications we may be able to help

    coin value

This has been answered in your other post http://www.coinpeople.com/index.php/topic/37284-value-of-the-coins/?do=findComment&comment=651716
  4. There are school chemistry experiments to make a copper/bronze coin appear silvery. Being that the size is correct, I doubt that it's off metal since there's no reason for there to be a nickel blank of the same size laying around. A XRF scan or specific gravity test would confirm its metallic composition.
  5. Likewise, best wishes for Christmas / Dies Natalis Solis Invicti :-)
  6. Hard to say from that photo, but weak strike or thin planchet are both possibilities. The former would not be an error.
  7. They may have a little bit of value as novelties, but as coins, they're technically altered. But I should note that even those coins in mint condition generally don't sell for much, since many people saved the 1967 pre-decimal pieces, being the last issues.
  8. Welcome! It sounds like it's technically a medallion rather than a coin (e.g. not currency) and I would assume that most likely any information that came with the packaging would probably be more than what one might obtain online.
  9. Since it's not an original bag anyways, I would open it. There would likely be some pieces that then were considered scrap (or close enoungh to include in a "junk/scrap" bag) that would now have a premium.
  10. I don't have a book ready but your piece is genuine, but from Austria-Hungary rather than Germany :-)
  11. They appear be regular circulation issue coins which have been selectively plated in the aftermarket.
  12. As Art noted, they should be fine - it's pretty common for edge inscriptions to be facing either way. My larger concern from the photo is that the pieces look polished.
  13. Yes, the star means that it's a replacement note.

    Gulden! SOS!))

Looks genuine, but rather harshly cleaned.
  15. Welcome! If you could provide a description, but preferably a photo with specifications (size, metal) the members here could certainly try to help you with the attribution.
  16. No comment from me - while I actively collect cash coins, iron cash are outside of my area. But in general, the main question to be asked if whether or not you're comfortable with the source of your piece.
  17. On c/n alloys, you're probably okay with a dip in acetone if you're comfortable with something stronger.
  18. Hi! Is it the same size and weight as a regular cent, or is it different?
  19. Counting token, Austria/Germany.
  20. Yikes. Looks like it's supposed to be a bronze medallion?
