  1. Then you've got coins which don't fit in 2.5x2.5 ...
  2. I usually go with 1797, since that's kinda the beginning of when hammered "went out".
  3. Probably generalist, since I don't do heavy research on specific areas.

    Date or Type?

Type, it's just easier, though I'm considering doing date runs for fun.
  5. All steel coinage these days (1999-) is nickel plate, except for the cent of course, which is copper plated. The commem is in no was supposed to be the same as the original, just kinda a re-issue, like the US buffalo nickel, which has changed from the original.
  6. I use use 2x2's mainly since they're about the only thing available where I live.
  7. Depends. Usually, I like VF-EF, though I can't stand aluminimum in anything less than AU+.
  8. Various online, local shops and shows (junkbox digging). Haven't bought much anything lately at all, though.
  9. I just got these on consignment (click to see them full size):
  10. For current circulating ones, none more common than the Canadian 10c, I'm sure you've all seen one
  11. Flow lines are seen on certain coins. In particular, US halves of the early 70s usually exhibit them.
  12. Uh, coins don't have "stretch marks"
  13. Or perhaps played with? (Though unlikely). I think the bubbles can be caused if there's corrosion in the zinc underneath (I've played with some zinc lincolns and weak acid before)
  14. First time I've actually seen one!
  15. I was basically collecting world right off the bat. There's a good amount of Canadian and US coinage circulating together where I am, and also the odd other Commonwealth piece.
