Hi
There are several good reference books. All written in English.
I use several.
Obviously Spink Coins of England (about £25) The 2013 is just out.A bit basic.
Coincrafts 2000 catalogue.A good reference (available 2nd hand)
North Volume 1 & 2(about £45 each)
Englands striking history (by Rotographic) Good value and an interesting read.(£7 or £8)
There are further specialist books which cover various subjects,
The above should start you off.
As you specialise you will find more information and websites.

Hi
Your token based on this would be worth £1 or £2 only
-
Hi
As advised your coins are all very common and only worth anything in UNC.
20p's with date one side are worth 20p.
Even the dateless 20p's are now only £40 and I expect this will be £40 for the next 25 years....they are vastly over rated and not a good investment.

They also come in a purple box.
They are proof's.
I have handled many over the years and never paid more than £3 or £4 each.
There is a frosted version and a sandblasted version which are very rare.I do believe the location of all these pieces is known to the market.

Its one of the most common British replica's you will come accross.
Also look out for a tiny WRL (Westair reproductions ltd) on coins.
1562 pewter 3d/6d size Liz 1 coins are also everywhere
Unless you are an experienced hammered collector start on Henry 111 or Edward 1 pennies and learn before you burn....or use trusted dealers.
On another forum we have ID'd avised the Ebay seller of a WRL pewter Liz crown copy worth £1 ??? it went for £770.

Breasts aren't that uncommon on coins and notes... But I can honestly say this is a first for me:
1926 Albania 1/2 Leku

All that muscle and yet the size of a blind cobblers thumb

Offhand I'm not certain though several pieces from 1792 feature Louis XVI and trees or gardens.
1791 George III advertising token, Great Britain.
These were produced for dozens of firms in incredible quantities. So far as I know they could be produced to this very day. I've seen pieces advertising pens from the 1940s and it is common to find 20 or so at a time sold in lots on eBay. I have a couple of reasons to believe this might be contemporary, one is the hole. This would indicate that it was worn for a time and there's hardly any point in that past about 1820. The second reason is the bust. The obverse on this piece is near identical with dozens of others produced by Kettle during the Regency period but it doesn't appear to have been struck from an aging die. I got this in a very nice lot of, frankly, crappy looking jetons all dating from the same period. There are at least three variants I haven't seen before in the lot so I was very happy to pick the group up cheaply.
They were often used as watch fob decorations hence so many are found holed.
I should doubt many were worn as they could easily be spotted as not being a guinea.Real guineas are blighted by solder and traces where the mounts were.

Peter,
Thanks also for the comments, It has been a brilliant experience putting the site together and I have learnt many things. The Victorian farthings were my initial area of collecting, but I am slowly progressing further back in time. I am currently looking into the George III and George II farthings, but my collection is a bit thin, so I will be more reliant on other peoples contributions for these areas. If you have any images of any types not listed, please feel free to e-mail them to me and I will add them to the site with an "images courtesy of" note. I try to keep to scanned images to allow for easy comparison of date spacings etc.
What is your area of interest with farthings?
Always good to speak to a fellow farthing fanatic!!
Hi Colin
My farthing interest is mainly copper and bronze currency.
It started as a date collection but has expanded into published and non puplished varieties.
It is a series I can work on but never finish.
I've recently worked on up grading Edward VII's series.
Of course I like BU farthings but pre 1860 in VF+ with good copper I really appreciate.
My wife realises I still need a couple of Biggies (varients on 1771 & 1717) I won't be rushed and now only go for the best I can afford.

Colin
Excellent site and details...much appreciated from a fellow farthing buff.

Being a UK based collector out of principle I avoid slabbed coins.
If I ever bought a slabbed it would soon be cracked out......However the US market is a different kettle of fish.....seemingly common coins demanding huge premiums in top grades.
I think I prefer the UK market....but I'm only 26% sure.

I will 2nd that Geordie....the request for tea was frowned upon...the beer !!!!!!....(It wasn't even warm and flat)well after chemical lager the only option was cocktails....UUUGGGG.
Thank goodness for proper tea (Teapot) real ale's and English Rose's.

Double wrap envelopes and make it as unobtrusive as you can.....loads of sellotape.
We have had several birthday/Xmas cards containing cash going missing.....Suffolk to Yorkshire (the Kids didn't have a bank account).
Wrap & Wrap.......If you get my drift.....and White lines don't do it......unless there're freebies...(never again).

Some are beautiful and some notso.
There has been plenty of interbreeding within the Euro communities over the centuries.
I think current Lizzie was a a cracker.....I still like her up with Liz Taylor.
My wife says Andy and William are dishy.
Di was a beauty...not just in looks and Charles seems a sensible bloke.
GOD SAVE THE QUEEN.
-
Obvious advice but use a US coin mailer....Andy,Chris take note....s*d the insured post on coins less that £250.
ALL MY problems have been with coins flopping about in a standard 9 x 4
evelope which Mr Post worker has sussed.
There is some postie git out there with a EF 1834 shilling of mine....probably brassoed it up and put on Ebay...or drilled it for a nice bit of Bling.

Often done by the Plough or the other farm machinary......Perfect Lizzie 6d,s what are they
Early milled not a bad coin.
-
Find one without the H......Rare or what.

I bought an Eschenbach lens for about £16 I thought it was x7 but in fact it was only x 4.
A fantastic product and at coin fairs the dealers know you mean business.
By the whay always say hello first ...if you are looking at an expensive coin it gives the seller reassurance.

It really does anger me that a while back Colleagues were working in Turkey and buying Polo shirts for £1 each....the same shirts were being shipped over to India and having the Lacoste emblem sown on and then sold in UK for £35.
MUGS.
Look at the loupe Ebayers feedback and go from there.
-
Loupes etc is a false market.
The Chinese/Indians have sussed it.
I paid recently £1.99 for an aluminiuum X10 eye piece and less than £4 for a x2O
loupe...( you could BIN for £10)
Both are perfect for my use ...Don't get ripped off.

Where are my chops......
I had bought loads of dead mice to make a relish....send the serpents to Ireland.
-
I,m a 60,s child (early) so I got loads of Victorian coins given me once I registered ny interest.
There was also loads of pre 47 silver (50%) in the UK that went through my hands on necessities like 10 Nr 6 (ciggies) which all us hard nuts used to do.
Thankfully I've turned into a Handsome gent who does't smoke and drinks moderatly....I would go for a bit of Special Pizza at a peace gathering as long as the kids were at Grandma's..... ....Haven't done it for years but its no worse than a bottle of Malt Whisky....I think
