2015 brings us closer to the end of the President dollar series.
jtryka replied to Dockwalliper's topic in Coin Forum
From what I've heard, unless Carter died last year, they would cease the program with Nixon, so that will be the end, no Reagan dollar. -
Is a $100,000 dollar note illegal to have?
jtryka replied to curiousnewbie's topic in Banknote Forum
They have never been legal for anyone that wasn't a Federal Reserve Bank to own, starting with the fact that they are all gold certificated issued after it was illegal for all US citizens to own more than $100 in gold certificates! These sorts of things come up all the time in other countries but the story is always the same, they are always fakes. -
I'm IN!

Good luck, and I tried to look at your coins, but there is no way I am signing up for Pinterest and they don't seem to want to let you view photos unless you sign in. That 29 SLQ looks terrific from what I could see though!

The 1820 was a deliberate purchase just because it's a tough date, the other three were actually just part of a lot that I bought, but I couldn't just toss them with the other coins!

Thanks! I finally found a $20 Legal Tender that was in my price range, so given I needed to spend my tax refund somewhere I figured why not?

Here are a couple additions I got last week, the $5 is an upgrade and the $20 is a new addition for the type:

Here's one I picked up from the Post Office yesterday...

here are a couple new ones that I think the RCM did a terrific job executing...

I'm not sure, my gut tells me they started with that thin paper and switched to thicker paper when they realized how poorly it performed in circulation.
-
That $5 note is from 1862, one of the very first "greenbacks" issued during the Civil War. The paper is super frail as these first issues were printed on very thin paper, so it's surprising it's lasted 150 years!

Finally added something to my type set!
