I've just received an email from Peter Goslett that his wife Maya Glenn [Goslett] - our forum member "Maya" - sadly passed away in December. He asked me to let the Forum know as he knew that she loved this website. I recall many nice conversations with her on this forum and am sorry to hear the news. Steve

Numismatic Literature
STEVE MOULDING replied to STEVE MOULDING's topic in Already Sold / Expired Listings
Super! Happy to hear that Dwight. Cheers, Steve -
Oops...quite right. Should be good now. If you see a broken link let me know. FYI...the Prices Realized Lists (PRLs) are transcribed to a standard format (for a number of good reasons). I usually do retain images of the original PRLs but do not (at this time) post them. Eventually, maybe this could turn into a central repository of prices realized? Cheers, Steve

Hello all - Just a quick plug for the www.rnumis.com website if you're looking for literature. There's been quite a lot of Russian material added recently - from the cheap to the very expensive. See here for more details: http://www.coinpeople.com/index.php/topic/36545-numismatic-literature/ Send me a pm or email with any questions/comments/wants. Also, the historical auction/sales database on the site is a resource some may find useful. I use it regularly. Cheers, Steve

Need help with auction catalogs.
STEVE MOULDING replied to Loyal Citizen's topic in Russian Coin Forums
I do have the 1930 catalog...it's just not listed for sale. You can always ask me...I have far more catalogs from that time than I have time to list :-) Cheers Steve -
Hope you didn't pay a lot! It's a copy..not very good. Can't tell when it was made. Cheers, Steve

5kop1810KM - ex Brekke Collection
STEVE MOULDING replied to sigistenz's topic in Russian Coin Forums
All in good hands then 1515 and 1521 are very nice! Mine is 1523. We should have a Brekke collection reunion party. I'm sure Mr BKB can bring along some dazzlers. -
5kop1810KM - ex Brekke Collection
STEVE MOULDING replied to sigistenz's topic in Russian Coin Forums
Very nice Sigi! Super coin. Though we exchanged emails a few times, I never met Mr. Brekke. I only have one or two of his coins in my collection - 1796EM Paul overstrike 5K (plate coin in Diakov) is probably the best. Cheers, Steve -
1775, Russian Empire, Cathrine II 5 Kopeks, (EM) Coin
STEVE MOULDING replied to mncosta's topic in Russian Coin Articles
Hi Miguel - I'd suggest reposting in the main "Russian Coin Forum" - not sure people check out this section (articles) very often. Cheers, Steve -
Yes...I'd agree the undercoin definitely looks like a different die to that in the comparison Thaler. Nice overlay gif! Cheers, Steve

Modern circulated Russian coins sold for cool price
STEVE MOULDING replied to gxseries's topic in Russian Coin Forums
Could be nothing more than a surreptitious US - Russia money transfer scheme. -
Looks good at a first glance, but will let the Catherine mavens chime in :-)

The finest collection of Russian coins
STEVE MOULDING replied to IMIS's topic in Russian Coin Forums
Very hard to find. All references grossly underestimate this coin. -
Hi Sigi...the second type is of course rarer, despite what Wolmar might think. The average prices....trickier. To do it right you'd need to factor in condition and sale-date across the data (the m-dv numbers go back quite a few years). You also need to be robust against a single high or low price skewing the answers..,using a median (not average) price can help, and even after all that, averages are still uncertain just because there are so few data points. Simple averages are not always what they seem. Well....they are...you just need to be careful with interpretation. I guess what you'd like to compare is each type - today and in the same condition. The answer may turn out to be exactly what you've already concluded but I'd be statistically happier if it were a bit more rigorous
