  1. The article is "The Minting of Platinum Roubles" by Christoph J. Raub. You will find that with Google. I cannot seem to post the link.
  2. A basic question, but how does one know when a novodel such as this was minted? Thanks.
  3. There was a article several years ago that included discussion of counterfeits. Somewhat scholarly. I found it after finding mine were not authentic. That is in other posts. Good luck.
  4. Yes indeed. If one looks at Goldberg Auction 84, the prices seem much lower. Did others think this a the NY sales as well. And some good pieces did not sell. I have thought it has to do with the weak rouble. Best -
  5. Thanks to you both. I do not have the vaguest interest in these. Look cleaned. Poor strike. Hole. Silly description. I like to see what is going on at EBAY and it amused to have these two as the very first that show up.
  6. This is my first time back in about 18 months. Such good minds here. Good to see some of the regulars still here. Lots of us learn from what other post and are relatively quiet. It is a challenge though when prices are high, quantities are scarce, and for most of us, the period of collection ended in 1917. I have no interest in Soviet coins. This is not a market that is easy to enter now.
  7. My NCS experience was with silver. But they did a good job with that. A fine coin.
  8. Here is one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-ROUBLE-1725-RUSSIAN-SILVER-Imperial-Coin-RUBLE-PETER-I-The-Great-ORIGINAL-/160904895243?_trksid=p2054897.l4275 And another http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-ROUBLE-1723-Old-RUSSIAN-SILVER-Imperial-Coin-RUBLE-PETER-I-ORIGINAL-/150928683926?_trksid=p2054897.l4276 (Tips on how to do shortcuts with links here since i obviously cannot do it?) Thought welcome. Best -
  9. Hi - In checking these coins out, it occurred to me that the obverse portrait seems to be of higher relief than other coins. Is this correct? Or it seems the strike of the obverse is not as crisp as with other coins? I see coins of varying grades but simply cannot see that much difference generally on the portrait - unless there is some frostiness involved. Thoughts welcome. Thanks.
  10. Agree with the above. A quick way to judge the grade of these 1762 coins is by checking the condition of the hair rolled by the ear. For most, this is worn away. This is a very nice coin.
  11. I would be interested in lot 324 please. Thanks.
  12. It is the business of our very own Loyal Citizen, here on the forum. The auction ended on May 17.
  13. Hello everyone - Have the results of this been released and if so, did anyone hit the jackpot? If not, when might those be released? I was very tempted and it is a pleasure doing business there, but went with a deal with the World Money Shop instead and am very pleased with that deluxe experience. Best - DAJ
  14. Hi everyone - Some of us like slabbing and i happen to be among those. I purchased an expensive rouble from a very reputable dealer who has a seven day return policy. He pointed out the flaws in the coin but also suggested it was an excellent piece with no problems he could see. It has great eye appeal. Image should be attached. While he detests slabbing, he sent the coin in for me to be slabbed as I requested. After seven weeks, the coin was returned with the news that the coin is of questionable authenticity. But the plot thickened today when he sent me that news from NGC. He revealed for the first time what he had not revealed before: He purchased the coin in an NGC slab at "AU details", He showed me the image of the broken slab. He dislikes slabs so much that he broke it out after he purchsed it. He called NGC about this. I would accept it at that AU details "grade" but a resubmission is no guarantee of getting different results. He could send the coin in again with the borken slab and we would see. I am not sure i could afford a higher grade coin. So I am thinking over what to do: Resubmit or take the money and run. Best - DAJ .
  15. Hey gx seroes - do you still produce this? Looks very interesting. Best -
