The coin was a nice unc... but it looks like it might have been cleaned... it has some hair lines.

I picked up one of those recently for a bit over melt. The 1887's are fairly common and easy to find as it was the first year of the new "Jubilee Head" design, so it was saved in large numbers. I have seen VERY few of these without some kind of hairlining.

Yours looks nice bthumbsup.gif

It could be my eyes (...and it's a bit late now), but that one looks like a 5 Pounds coin...

from the 1996 Krause (last year to include 19th + 20th century), with gold values based on $374/oz., it lists at $1000 in XF, $1500 in UNC.

Chard's (a large UK dealer) has them listed at £550 (US$910) for XF and £625 (US$1035) for AU. link to Chard's site (24carat.co.uk)

there are also a couple listed on Andy Bruce's site, both AU, with price tags of £750 & £850 (US$1400 & US$1575, respectively). Andy Bruces' site (OnlineCoins.co.uk)
