Here's a small silver or billon coin of Alexander, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania, (son of Cazimir IV). I'm not sure of its actual denomination but I suspect that its a `grosz'

Obverse: eagle with legend `ALEXANDER DEI G REX'

Reverse: crown with legend `MONETA REGIS POLONIAE (AR)

I think this is 1/2 Grosz.
I have a catalogue by Z.Klimek of Polish coins between 1506 and 1795. It starts with a period of Sigismund I who ruled right after Alexander. Under Sigismund I coins with eagle on Av. and crown on Rev. were 1/2 Grosz. Design for Grosz was different.

Hi,

Thanks for that. Looks like it is a half grosz

I just noticed that there's another similar coin to mine at omnicoin.com. It's designated as being a half grosz, but the owner has no reference associated with it either.
