I bought a roll of eagles last year, 12+ of them had the flaw pictured here: a small, curved indentation with 'dot' indentation, on the right-hand side of the obverse's field. It catches and reflects the light, in a fly-in-the-soup fashion.

Shooting through an 8x loupe helps show the indentations as more than a bright spot, though. Thanks for that tip. smile.gif

well if it was on multiple coins.. it is most likely a die problem...looks like a die gouge to me. Something dug into the die and left a mark on it..that mark is transfered to all the coins it then strikes.

I'd be inclined to think it was something stuck to the die - a small piece of metal or wire. It would have to be proud of the die to make an incuse mark on the coin.

Won't the mint replace the coins if it is determined that it was a defective die?
