Got this coin thanking it was a error 1844-0 $10 gold coin. What do you thank ??

could be a couple of things... either some sort of hot liquid metal got on the coin...it might have been put in a mount.. (it' hard to tell if the dark areas are raised or inset) or it could be a counterfeit with the plating coming off (but only if the dark areas are into the coin and not raised)

my best guess.....it was mounted into something metal and they soddered it.

Looks like solder damage to me too.

I concur.

You are probably right on waiting for gold to go up. It's a good time to hold on to that gold IMO.

I called the man I got the $10 gold coin from and he give about $260 for it and I payed $150, thank I'll go sale it to him. wink.gif
