Can't find much on UK errors or die clogs, so have a look yourself. Sorry not the best pics in the world, but the secondary metal is definitely part of the coin, and the obverse is a very nice bright AU.

Anyone know about this coin?

Looks like metallic paint. And the coin itself has been harshly polished.

It looks like the metal was painted on to me too.

Here's zoom on the metallic area. On the far right you can see where I lightly dug at it with a dental tool. Its not paint, and if you look at the area surrounding the metal in question you can see die damage all around. I couldn't post a bigger version in here, but you can pull up one twice this size at this link

Solder?

That's what it looks like to me--especially considering the way it filled in the 'waffle holes' in the rigging. The parts that haven't been scraped have the typical lustre and tone of resolidified solder, too.

I wonder if someone attempted to tin it and did not have enough heat for it to work.

Hi,
It's solder. The coin was probably attatched to something. Sometimes belt buckles and the like are made by soldering many coins together. This one came away from whatever it was attatched to.
