ok... noobie question for all... I recently came across a very lusterful 1962 (no mint mark) Franklin. It looks uncirculated, and it just doesn't look like a regular circulation coin. So, how can I tell if a 1962 Franklin is proof or not? Thanks.

Notice how the regular strike is more matted.

Well, if the coin strike is the only thing I can go by (no mint mark, etc.) then I guess I now have a 1962 Franklin proof from a bank roll! woohoo!

It's very unlikely that you get a proof coin from a roll, unless someone was silly enough to place a proof coin back into circulation, which is dumb, but it happens. Perhaps you would like to share a picture?

Keep in mind that one of the easiest ways for a thief to dispose of coins from a robbery is by rolling them up and depositing them at a bank.

I agree, no reason for a franklin proof (in very nice condition) to be rolled up with a bunch of common JFK halfs... Since the mint mark doesn't give away if it's a proof or circulation coin, and all I have to go by is the finish on it... I'd say it has a chance to be proof. Anyway, it's Prob just a circulation coin in good shape, but I'll post pictures as soon as I get them.

It's very possible it could be a circulated proof. They are out there to be found.

Relatives die leaving all this money just stored in plastic and cardboard, easy money to cash in at the bank.
