A James VI of Scotland Ryal (aka `sword dollar') minted in 1570. Very rarely seen these days and difficult to find in this grade. This one was counterstamped in 1578 with a crowned thistle denoting an upward valuation from the initial 30 shillings Scots to 36 shillings and nine pence Scots due to the sharp rise in silver prices worldwide at that time. The counterstamping seems to have split the flan in the process. Europe
