As some of you may know just getting back in to coins. I have been looking at morgan variations, One type I have noticed was the "clashed" type. Either the pictures I have seen are not to clear or I'm missing something. (Probably the later.) Could some one steer me in the direction of a clear picture. Most of the ones I've seen look more like damage.

It is damage, but since it is caused by the mint it is collectible damage. A clashed die is one where the obverse and reverse dies clash without a coin blank in between. This causes the impression of the reverse to appear on the obverse or vica versa. So it will look like damage, but in nice cases you'll be able to see the transposed design. Bust halves had this happen fairly frequently.

Now thats a clashed die!! Most of the ones I've seen on the net were a lot smaller then the die gouge on a tailbar. And to me not really identifiable.

If you can't tell it's there is it any fun to collect?
