I found this coin a while ago in change, and was shocked by the condition...
perhaps it's been altered? what is your opinion...

I'd guess the same as Jlueke -- somehow escaped from a collection. It's a nice looking cent.

Hi,
Depending upon where you are, some dealers still do coin drops as they used to be called. Sometimes they circulate a few nice coins to build up some interest in the geographical areas around coin shows. Also, some folks will take a coin like that to a local dealer if they don't know what the value is. Then the dealer might have a new potential customer.
Less common nowadays but still done on occasion. I just thought I'd mention that possibility.

Nice find! Looks like a good coin. Don't think there is any alteration that I can see.

There are also people who lose a spouse or whatever and pack the whole coin collection off to the bank. What a tragedy....

Let's not talk about the divorce thing. A friend of mine who has a small dealership just went through that. UGLY@@@@@

Looks to be tooled from an old Finnish 5 penniä- You might as well just send it to me. grin.gif
