For the large hunk of silver collection.... 1972 Brazil 20 Cruzeiros KM# 583 .900 silver 150th Anniversery of Independence. Mintage: 250K. As far as modern designs are concerned, I suppose this one is interesting (*yawn*) smile.gif

Picked up 9 good old fashioned Lincolns, including this one, to fill holes. The mighty, yet humble, Lincoln cent, starting ground for many a US collector. Someday I will have that album filled!

Also got a dozen proof Jefferson's, including this one. Still have a long way to go with this album.

That is one awesome reverse design!

Missed these updates. You are right, the reverse on the Canadian halves is awesome. Have about 10 of them in my collection currently and always searching 50% off boxes for more.

The Thaler is lovely in many different ways. The reverse and toning really make the coin what it is.

Excellent purchases.

My most expensive purchase from the Baltimore show. I have been scouting these out for a while and finally found one at a reasonable price. I don't suppose I can legitimately include it in my US quarter dollar type set smile.gif

These three were all relatively inexpensive, "interesting coin" category buys.

My only coin from Cuba. Still haven't done much in the way of cataloging a 'country collection', but this one will be included there.

Most of the coins I purchased at this last Baltimore show were those to work on filling my Jefferson and Lincoln sets. Both of my folders have S-proofs and I still have a long way to go - but I am making good progress. Here are a few examples...

Spain 1871 5 Pesetas
KM #666 .900 silver
Madrid (six-pointed star)
user posted image

If you are familiar with the Spanish coins of this era, you know that the date on some coins is nominal and the actual date is in the stars. That is, these 5 pesetas can be 1871 / 73/74/75. The second digit on the second star on this one, however, defies identification.

user posted image

I have looked at this with a glass at every angle and I cannot make out a second digit - it's like it was never there! This is surprising as they are incuse and there is not that much wear on the coin such that it would be completely obscured.

Luckily, Krause lists only a single SD-M (which is what this one is) and that is for 1871 - so this is, in fact, an 1871.

I keep plugging away at my Jefferson set and added a few this week, including these two. I hope to have the collection complete by year's end or sooner.

This 1938 is a golden-toned beauty.

As you might expect, I have been examining a lot of Jeffersons while working on this set. I am particularly noticing the advances in the die work and strike with the more recent issues. Look at the detail definition on this 2000-S proof - pretty impressive, in my opinion.

I am particularly pleased with the 43-S ($3.75). A while ago, I bought a board of wartime nickels...

...and did not notice until later that the 1943-S slot was filled with a 1945-S (way to check the coins you buy eh?)

Every once in a while, I seem to purchase some coins for no good reason. I mean, I try to stay focussed on some collecting projects...Jefferson set...Lincoln set...Large world silver...always looking to expand or upgrade some type sets and add to a small late Roman Empire set. So, I really don't know why I bought this mini-dime type set. They were all on a card and were reasonably priced and...well, I just felt like getting them. There is really nothing that I can even use as an upgrade to my existing US dime type set shown here... oh well blink.gif

Yesterday, a friend and I went to the Baltimore show - what a great time! I have been to this large show many times and always enjoy it a lot. This was the first time that I was able to go on a Friday (the first day of the puplic show). This one was advertised as the "largest ever" and it was, in fact, larger than any I have been to previously.

I picked up quite a few coins there, including these two Jeffs...and....I have now completed my Jefferson album (1938-2004 with proofs).

WooHoo!

Nice!

I was up there today and didn't even cover the full bourse floor! I usually can comb all the dealer's tables in an hour and get back to buying. But with the new space, jeeesh...

I have no money now either. sad.gif

Whatever, new members of the collectons.

Did you ever make it to see the 1913 Liberty head nickel? I kept trying to head in the direction of the booth number but always got side tracked - it was quite a nice show.

Anywho, I did see a lot of other fancy pieces around. Some of the currency stuff was mouth-watering.

Another pickup from the Baltimore show...
1926 Sesquicentennial commemorative half. These were designed by John R. Sinnock who also designed the Franklin Half (can you see the resemblence?). They are notoriously low-relief for an otherwise great design. They can get quite pricey - but not in this condition smile.gif
