For the small cent type set..almost 70 years old and looking young as a new born. BTW: I positively hate photographing slabbed coins!

Please put him in the "Grading Challenge" forum to see how many of us agree with the slab!

Picked this up after work today. Really gorgeous toasty toning. This is the second one like this that I have purchased.

Gotta love these new pig dollars smile.gif

Great coins. I really love the Lincoln.

A friend of mine took a trip to Singapore recently and was kind enough to bring these back for me.

IPB Image

She also gave me these: that Ringgit is pretty nice.

My first purchases of the year turned out to be a couple of large hunks of silver...a 2007 SAE (previously posted in the 1800-forever, 1 coin per year thread) and this 2007 Panda.

IPB Image

Art
Very nice stuff and a great way to start the year.

The Caballito Peso. I have long wanted an example of this beautiful design.

Looks almost prooflike.

It's been a while since I have had any new acquisitions. So I stopped off at a local shop and picked up a few interesting pieces - these are from the 6/1.00 bin.

A nice 1944-S Centavo with a lot of red remaining.

IPB Image

My first coin from Jordan. One of these days I have to start putting together a country collection.

IPB Image

Lots of luster on this one.

IPB Image

Don't know what this one is - obviously damaged but interesting - guess I will be searching Krauss.

IPB Image

From India I believe.

Had to get one of the Churchills for 50 cents - a notably 'ugly' coin smile.gif.

I didn't need this Kennedy at all, but I really like the series. For $5.50, I thought it had some nice eye appeal, allthough it is scuffed a bit.

IPB Image

As a little bonus, the Dealer gave me a Washington dollar in change - my first one! I can't say that I really like the design, but I don't dislike it as much as many have expressed. The edge lettering is kind of cool.

Got two needed additions to my off center memorial lincoln year set from Lost Dutchman! The 1963 is a beauty. The other one is rough and a little hard to read but I pretty much agree that it is a 1960 as labelled. I went through my lincolns looking at the positions of the numerals on all the 60s dates and 1960 fits the best - agree?

The one from India appears to a 1927 to 1928 Travencore Chuckram. (From my world coin book.)

Thanks for the Travencore tip - that made it easy to look up in my Krauss, but now I'm confused. I see km#43 and km#49 as possibilities. There is only one picture for both (presumably this is for km#43). There is slight difference in the characters at 7:00 on my coin (maybe that means it is km#49, but again no pic). KM#49 is listed as ND 1906-1935. Do you have an identifying number in your world coin book?

I am using a Standard Catalog of world coins by Chester Krause and Clifford Mishler 1979 edition
The picture appears to be dead on. All the writing and designs match.

IPB Image

BTW the top one is marked "Chuckram One" not "One Chuckram".

From the Baltimore show...

For the Large Hunks of Silver collection, a Bahamian Dollar.

IPB Image

syzygy
Also from the Baltimore show...

For the Lincoln Cent Dansco...

IPB Image

..and a bunch of modern proofs, a couple of which are below..

IPB Image

IPB Image

Notice how cheap looking the zincoln proofs are? The copper plating is so thin, it just can't take the proof surface well and I constantly see that corrugated effect on virtually all of them. If I shoot through a pinhole, I can remove some of the effect from the pic, but not from the coin smile.gif.

IPB Image

Even though I didn't "need" one, I couldn't resist this tasty 1966 proof unc (duh).

IPB Image
syzygy
Here is an interesting one...a nice, but low-grade, 1864 IHC.

IPB Image

With a nice clear repunched date...

IPB Image

I don't see an "L" - do you? Am I blind?

IPB Image

They see one.

IPB Image

Or is the "L" assumed based on the RPD (i.e., is this RPD only seen on the 1864 "L")?
syzygy
I picked this one up but didn't really need it, I just liked it a lot. I think I have a little desire building to start a US WWII type set - 1942-1945. One could probably put together a nice MS set without spending a fortune.

IPB Image

Nice "nickel"!

I have always wanted a coin from Carson City, but a lot of them have some pretty hefty price tags. Most often one grabs one of the seated dimes - they seem to be about the most reasonably priced CC coins. Well, I have been looking and I couldn't locate one that I wanted (believe it or not). Got these two instead.

I know this quarter one has seen a great deal of duty, but I think its charming. Amazingly, some letters in Liberty are still visible!

IPB Image

This half has less wear but has taken a few shots.

IPB Image

So now I have some CC coins.

Very nice stuff. I especially like the 45 Jefferson.

All are handsome! I really appreciate how you can see the differences between an early die state (2005-s) and a late die state (1978-S) right next to each other.

You mean the shrunken head lincolns? I think of early and late die state as referring to coins struck with the same die early and late in that die's functional life. You are probably referring to the different designs the Lincoln dies have gone through - I think there have been several changes, but the most notable to me are the shrunken head (compare the 68 with the 05 - blech). Wonder what Abe would say smile.gif

Of course there are slight design modifications in the almost-30-year's date difference. And of course they aren't from the same dies. But, based on my experience, you can see that the 78 was minted later in the production than the 2005:

1) the sharpness of the mintmark in the 2005 vs the less-sharp 1978 mintmark.
2) the concavity of the field near the rims on the riverse on the 1978 vs the levelness of the field on the 2005
3) the same phenomenom i seen immediately below the steps on the 1978.
4) the design also seems much crisper on the 2005.

Now, i've seen in other threads on CP that field concavity near the rims is found on late-die-stage coins - that explains points 2) and 3).

In fact, Matt gives a nice explanation of that here.

Cool, eh?

Yes, that is interesting. I notice that CONECA has a new site called Variety Vista where it looks like they will be going into depth on illustrating die stages of various varieties - see here for an example.

Plugging away on the Mighty Lincoln collection, I added these two.

Nice additions! At first I thought "wow! A 1922-D! How rare!" and then "A 1914-S! He's got two of the biggest rarities there!" Then I realized....

It was fun while it lasted.
syzygy
Some more additions to the Lincoln Cent collection...all from the Baltimore show.

Found 5 proofs that I needed, including these two.

As completion of this set grows closer, I am thinking about what to do with the last few holes. That is, the 22 no D and the S-VDB are going to be a real test of my collecting comfort levels. Moreover, I don't like the idea of the 22 no D even being one of the holes as it is variety of the 22-D as I understand! I don't like the idea of buying copies at all. I picked up a couple of blank planchets for $1 each and I think I will use those...at least for a while.

Re: the 1914D and 1922 no D

Hmm.. are there no examples of each <$500 in any grade? I can't remember the values off the top of my head. I'm seeing some nice ~$150 1914-Ds in G4 on Heritage. Kinda cool to settle for such a low grade.

1922 no D in G4 for ~$500.

Here's what I have yet to get:

1909-S VDB
1914-D
1922 Plain
1931-S

1970-S small date
1974-D
2004-D
2007-D

Proofs
1994-S
1996-S
1997-S
1999-S
2007-S

This album has coins from my 'original' Lincoln collection from circulation when I was a kid (from 2 old blue Whitmans). So, I upgraded to an Intercept Shield album w/proofs and it's been a major focus this year.
The proofs and the second group are easy (don't ask me why I haven't found a 74-D in change yet, I will and the 07-D will show up as well).

Of the keys, I will eventually get the 31-S and 14-D - probably. The S-VDB is another story and, of course, every one wants one - regardless of grade - but it is not out of the question, just not in the stars for this year. I don't think I will ever get the 22 no D - it is incredibly over-priced as far as I am concerned and it shouldn't even have a hole in the album. Until we make our own albums though, we have to deal with what they give us smile.gif

From the Baltimore show...picked up this nice Commemorative clad half for only $6. I liked the design and it has a place in my half dollar type set Link Here.

Another inexpensive pick-up from the Baltimore show is this Canadian Commemorative dollar. An absolutely stunning reverse which reminds me of two US coins.

More inexpensive Baltimore silver. This Portuguese 50 escuedos caught my eye because of the impressive portrait.

I have taken the plunge and embarked on another new collecting area.....

IPB Image

I have always liked these and have been buying a few here and there for a while. I put a couple up on the grading challenge thread. Yesterday I bought a Dansco and a few more.

I even like them well circulated.

IPB Image

This one (at a junk bin price) was too nasty and as much as I really don't think it's a good idea dipping circulated coins, I did dip this one. Some may say I ruined the coin, but I don't think so. Here's the before and afters...

...and one more circulated one...

Picked up a few Peace dollars today - well travelled, but they have home in my Dansco now.
