Very nice. I was looking at some of these this past weekend. They are nice designs and the coins have a decent heft to them. A neat collection.

Very nice. KM # 471 looks like Freud, doesn't he? wink.gif

Picked up two of these because they were so darn impressive. I have long wanted a Maria Theresa Thaler - This is an incredibly popular design that was originally struck in 1740. As I understand, modern strikes (estimated 300M) continue today.

There are a number of variants that can be identified by some minor design details - summarized well through this link.
Both of mine are III-C-E-4-C as far as I can tell. This first one is so nice, I had to include a larger pic.

This second one has some nice toning and is almost as nice as the first.

nahhh I'm not even sure what my theme is here - just kind of went on a large hunk of silver jag - you have some actual direction smile.gif

We have been under the "threat" of 10 zillion inches of snow. In this area, that causes a general panic and run on milk and bread smile.gif Undaunted by the warnings, I enjoyed a trip to a large shop that is nearby and acquired several new pieces. Now the snow really is coming down and is scheduled to snow all night - sounds like a good time to photograph and catalog some coins!

This is a new Canadian silver bullion coin. Several characteristics caught my attention. First, it is a 1/2 oz silver - maybe silver bullion coins have become so popular that smaller sizes are showing up. Second, the strike on this coin is very impressive. The Liz device is incredibly mirrored. Coin in hand, it looks liquid! The fields have been roughened with some parallel brush matting of some kind. It would take a long time to get this coin photographed properly, but this will give you an idea if you have not seen one. Mints are getting better and better and striking these bullion coins - maybe because of all the competition and to distinguish them from non-government issues.

A 'junk' dollar. I am guessing a bit on this date based on the 2nd character for the year 21 coin in Krauss, and the few possibilities - but if anyone knows for sure, please let me know. Krause also notes that some of these were struck in the US!

Thanks Art, I am happy with the purchase. After looking around, I think this may be a Venetian piece and maybe earlier than 1600. It bears some similarity to this one: link

Krause says the population of the Isle of Man is about 68,000. Seems like they have made that many different coins in just the last few years. In otherwords, they are a bit on the commercial side in the coin minting area. Still, I have always wanted a cat coin and so there is room in my silver hunk collection for this one.

I am thinking that this is from Venice 1200-1400. Check out the similarities with the AR Grosso coins here -> link. I am on the lookout for a cataloge and any further info.

I think you're probably correct. It's a pity you can't quite make out the obverse legend! The later Roman and the Eastern Byzantine do seem to be simmilar!

Looks like it might be Serbian.
It is a "banner" type.
Legend looks like it reads "UROSIUS | REX | S STEFAN", which would be either King Stefan Uros I Nemanjic (1243-1276) or King Stefan Uros II Milutin (1282-1321). These were made to look similar to the issues of the Doges of Venice, as the Venetian coins were introduced to the region during the 4th crusades of the early 1200's. If you notice, most of the Venetian pieces have DUX (Duke), vertically between the figures on the obverse. Yours, as most Serbian pieces, has REX (King).

Yes! I did notice the R instead of D (or what sometimes looked like a P) that I was seeing on all the Venetian pieces - thanx much for the info!

I think this is an 1762 10 Soldi from Milan. Hopefully, there is enough detail for better identification.

I'm not certain that this is an official Mexican coin. It appears to be silver and is all of 10 mm! Quite a challenge to photograph. My Krause does not list it in the Maximilian section.

I can't spot a Maximilian like this in my book either. The obverse is the same as a 1866 since it does not have the ribbon? below the bust, But the reverse does not match anything.

Ok, it's not a new coin, but....I *really* like my coffee and I got tired of drinking it from the stupid freebie cup d'jour. So I had this one made today using pics from a favorite Constantine / Jupiter of mine. Geeky, but I like it biggrin.gif

I had it done at one of those mall kiosks - I just gave him a couple of .jpgs and it only took him about 20 min. Probably could have have saved a buck or two doing it elsewhere but I saw him this weekend and made a note to go check it out after work.
