Probably on silver in the silver set. Then there's the copper-nickel set, the copper set, the brass set (oops! - careful here)..... shok.gif

This coin is not very big, and thus not for my crown set. As a side project to my crown set, I am working on an overall silver type set. At first I thought this was silver. However, even though this one is not silver, it just looked too good to pass up. biggrin.gif

I did get some other coins today, but I think I will wait until the next PCI for those. wink.gif

If you don't like it, I am very willing to take care of it. bwink.gif
I have a soft spot for ottoman coins.

(This is not the actual coin, but it is basically the same.)

It is the one commemorative that I hoard when I find it at a decent price. It is my favorite Finn commemorative if not my overall favorite commemorative.

There is an Epic of a story behind it. wink.gif But, I think Harri is probably better versed in it than I. grin.gif

It even won the Coin of the Year award. The figure is Väinämöoinen and the coin commemorates the 150th year of the publication of the epic Kalevala in which he is the main protagonist.

Yesterday I received the 2006 circulation coins for Finland. It is the first time that I have purchased normal current circulation coins outside of an official mint set.

Today was a nice bounty biggrin.gif :
2006 Germany 2€ Schleswig-Holstein

And then a few for my crown set:
Egypt 1968 pound - Aswan Dam

The Egypt 1939 20 piastres has an added bonus of having a nice ornamented edge. (I added a Canadian cent as a size reference.):

I've always wanted one of those British Trades. They are beautiful.

And I haven't forgotten. I'll get that list to you sooner or later. bwink.gif

That trade dollar is definitely a nice hunk of silver. I have one, but not in that kind of condition. Great detail on the obverse - excellent specimen.
Sir Sisu
Was at an auction today and most of the items I was "after" finished above my max bids. However, I still picked up 2 small lots:

1923 German Notgeld - 10,000 marks Westfalen

A mixed lot of circulated European silver:
Hungary 1939 5 pengo
Yugoslavia 1938 50 dinara
Hungary 1879 1 forint
Belgium 1873 5 francs
France 1929 10 francs

Synchronisity. I'm taking Cheri on a deferred Valentine's night out on Friday. After the Mozart piano concerto they are performing :

Sibelius: Lemminkäinen Legends

"Inspired by the Finnish epic Kalevala, Sibelius illustrates four adventures of the rakish hero Lemminkäinen. We witness his search for female companionship, quest to slay the Swan of Tuonela, sojourn in the land of the dead and, at last, a dramatic trip home."

Nice! The Swan of Tuonela is perhaps the best known movement of that suite. It is a good one! I hope you enjoy it.

That Trade Dollar is a beauty!

Another silver crown coin came today, this time inside a NGC slab -my first ever slab. (Thanks kuhli for your help hi.gif ) I purchased it with plans to crack it out, but it is such an interesting piece of novelty in a non-slabbing collecting environment, I am tempted to keep it intact.
Sir Sisu
This week has been a busy yet plentiful one. I have not been able to image and upload everything but here is a few for starters. I hope to get to some more tomorrow.

I received 2 (2005 and 2006) Italian €2 commems from tabbs. hi.gif
Today I received a returned X-mas letter that I sent to Palma. He is obviously no longer at his old address.
Here is one for the crown collection:

I will try and get the others imaged tomorrow.

Here is another one that I received this week:

This 200 soles from Peru I had already ordered before it got cut from my list after I revised the specifications for the crowns that I will collect. I may just inlcude it though as the diameter is very close to the average crown size. It got cut because its weight is 22g and not the minimum 23g that I decided on.

user posted image

The portraits on the reverse, while boring in design, have a high relief. It is almost like a medal.

It's nice and yeh, I can see from the pic that the portraits are high relief - I have always liked that Peruvian obverse.

Sir Sisu
Here are a few that I received this week. My additions will slow to a drip as I save for our upcoming trip.

BU and Proof 2006 Finn commem.

and a couple of additions to my silver collection:

Fantastic. You're really putting together a "World Class" world crown collection.

Sir Sisu
Some more crowns for the collection. I was somewhat disappointed with these: cleaned and dinged up. I will look to upgrade these at some point but they can stay for now. They still make for nice chunks of silver.

Panama balboa OBVERSE

Another for my head-start on the 19th century:

I also got some other world silver (Israel 250 prutah, Philippine 20 centavos, some Canadian 10 cents), a scratched Finn commem for bullion, and a 3d from 28p.

Thanks!

The Cuban peso interests me too. I have had the 40 centavos pieces for some time and they basically look the same. So everytime I have seen an image of the peso, I always imagined it to be the same size. So when I first got this peso I was taken aback -it was actually as big as a crown.
Sir Sisu
A 1988 US Olympic silver dollar from gpnyc, thank you! hi.gif
Sir Sisu
These came about a week or so ago, but I have been on a major coin fasting for the past month or so.

One of my all-time favorite average circulation coins. This one is a semi key date (still relatively common)

And also the first toned Finn coin that I have ever purchased. However, that is not the reason I bought this one. This coin came encased in a rectangular plastic case (only the 1989 Nordic Skiing commem was done completely this way), while the majority of these came in a soft plastic 2x2-like flip holder.

I intend to leave it in here and tone as it may.

It in past few days I have received some great stuff, but have not taken pictures of all, but here it goes:

2006 Netherlands €5 commem from T_3
2005P US Sac dollar from Art
1945P US billon 5 cent from Blackhawk

and finally picked up my auction wins today:

There are no silver bullion here like the US Eagles or the Canadian Maple issues as you could probably guess. And of the old commems this one is the only one that had a large mintage AND a fineness of .900 (The rest from the 70s and 80s were .500).

I finally received both of the new Ben Franklin BU dollar commems yesterday!
