I have a large shoebox (well, actually a "Joe Jrs. pizza kit box") full of random mainly world coins... I took some of my more interesting ones and put them all on my scanner and... it worked much better that I expected

Thanks! I also have this... Rhose Island Ship Token (according to redbook) and I'm almost afraid of this coin On one hand, redbook calls it a $1000 coin on the other hand I'm hoping that it's not a fake of copy... lol, it would be such a bummer to find out this wasn't real....

Nice variety! I sure hope that 1000 yen gets to move into a place of its own soon. They have a moderate price tag attatched to them.

I'm not an expert on colonial coins, but many were restruck at various points in time including the Rhode Island piece. I have a 1776 New Hampshire William Moulton token restrike (whether the original is real or fantasy, mine is a restrike Maury Gould gave me years ago) that shares characteristics of yours around the rim.

The original Rhode Island pieces were struck in brass, 2 in pewter. Those in the Garret collection show the beaded border at the rim of the coin, well centered. Your piece shows the full beaded border and a raised rim outside of that. It appears the planchet is slightly too large and you most likely have a restrike.

It doesn't hurt to have someone familiar with colonial pieces to look at your actual medal, but I wouldn't set my expectations too high.

You should post that Rhode Island token at a few other coin sites to see if they think it's real or not. Because if it is, I'd have it slabbed very quickly.

yep, that's a bust half, it's got some scratching on it though.... I got all kinds of cardboard 2 x 2 holders to put my collection in only to realize that the bust half was too big to fit in the half-d sized holder.... so i need to get something to keep it in.

As to the yen coin, it's in it's own place, i just included it in the scan, lol, I looked it up and found a bit on it... seems to run about $10 but I can't really say... That coin was brought back by a friend who went to japan. Most of my other foreign coins came in a little crystal jar that someone left at my old house .

The rhode Island coin.... hmm.... interesting about the rim, I'll definately post it somewhere else to get a second opinion. Iw was in a "treasure chest" of old costume jewelery that my grandfather had... also in the box (that i didn't take) were two or three coins with dinosaur patters (made of a light metal almost like tin or alluminum and a ton of old Newport Bridge tokens. Also a foriegn coin with "vittorio emanuelle II re D'Italia" on it and a picture of a man with a pointy beard.

Very nice bust half, and yes, the lettered edge varieties are slightly larger in diameter from a standard half dollar (the reeded edge issues are the same diameter). If you are looking for a holder, I believe those air-tight holders have a holder with the correct diameter for lettered edge halves (usually 32mm compared with 30mm for a standard half).

whew, it's good knowing the size on the half is normal, I was afraid for a second that it was going to be fake... lol

Anyway, just at first glance does anyone see anything strange about these dimes? The orange tint on the top one is just the glare of my room light conflicting with the camera flash, both are in great condition... I think the edges look a little thick, but maybe that's my "find something huge in pocket change" paranoia kicking in

Bust half looks rather nice. Those coins wear better then any other. Most coins look ugly and flat with that kind of wear.

The top-most dime kinda looks broadstruck, but I'd have to see a better photo/scan to determine whether it is or not.
