Sir Sisu
I received one yesterday that I purchased from daggit (Thank you hi.gif ), for my crown collection. When defining the set I would collect for myself, I made it a point to leave out any Proof or PL pieces. This one however, puzzles me. It sure looks as though it is a PL piece, but when I checked my Krause (not infallible I know) there is no PL listed for that year- 1965. Is this just a KM oversight or were all pieces made like this and just listed as starting from the MS scale?

They certainly did make PL dollars in 65. I had 2 ICCS graded PL dollars that I sold to Erik.

1965 $1 were issued 3 ways:

MS - Circulation issues
PL - As a single PL-coin (PL $1 singles were issued for a few years)
PL - As part of a PL-set

What about the 1953-1963 series for the dollar. Were there any seperate P/L issues for these years or were they all normal strikes?
ccg
There were both MS and PL strikes in those years.

To make things more confusing, some PL sets contain MS coins, or coins struck with mis-matched dies. There were also some PL dies which ended up being used for circulation coinage.

But for the most part, most coins will be MS.

Thanks for the reply!

I am still not sure what I have then. I took a couple of quick shots of the two coins in question. They're probably not the best, but I am hoping they might give a clue as to what they are: unc or P/L.

Hard to say for sure, but both like like UNC.
