No, do not expect to see any pictures here ... yet. But I came across this press release from the US Mint; not sure if it has been posted:

United States Mint to Present Designs for New 24-Karat Bullion Coins, 2007 Presidential $1 Coins, 2007 50 State Quarters Program® and 2007 Jamestown Commemorative Coin
http://usmint.gov/pressroom/index.cfm?acti..._release&ID=636

Seems that on Tuesday the "design proposals" will be out. smile.gif

Images of the Presidents will be derived from the United States Mint’s Presidential Medals, dating back to the earliest days of the Republic.

If they are going to use designs fromt he Presidential Medals...

might give an indication of the 'treat' we are in for. unsure.gif

Some of those medals look pretty good. I really like the Washington one.

To me these coins are going to be hit or miss. Hopefully they look great.

Thanks for the link to those images. smile.gif Well, I suppose that the portraits on the $1 coins will be a little "flatter" (low relief). But basically the designs look OK to me.

I have most all the Presidential Medals and they are kind of nice. But, they have been done already.

Maybe they will only use those for the first year (time crunch?) and then come up with something more original for the next ones.

Why in the hell does Virginia get any say in the commemorative silver dollar program? They have already hijacked the nickel, again!!!

No politics in coinage!!
THUS ALWAYS TO TYRANTS!!

I wonder if we are going to see knockoffs of these, ala the "Close Quarters" things with Arnold the Gubernator and Clinton having fun behind a tree on the Arkansas quarter?

Then the neighbours to the North will have to have a Prime Ministers series, and Brian Mulroney and the fanny patting commem.
