I have had a copper (looking) coin from the portuguese colony of angola for some years now, and finally decided to find out if it's rare/worth anything!

It's dated 1750 and has a large X on the front of the coin.. with the inscription "PORT.ET.ALG.REX ..... IOSEPHUS.I.D.G" above the X is a crown

on the obverse there is a coat of arms and the inscription "PECUNIA.INSULANA"

I have searched high and low on the net, but have had little luck at finding out much about it.

Please help me,

Thanks

Dean (from Birmingham, England)

You cannot find information on your coin because you are not looking in the right places. wink.gif

Your coin is not from Angola (it would have GUINEE at the end of the obverse legend if it was), but rather your coin is from the Azore Islands.

Look like this??
