This error occurs during the blanking process. The blank strip must be cut and if the cutters lose control of the strip it may not be cut down the center making the end slimmer than the top. If the narrow end is fed into the blanking press and the side guides cannot control it, the strip may weave laterally during the trip through the blanking dies causing clips.
