With the new coin act that is almost certain to pass, will you be collecting the Presidential dollars?

I will not directly, but thru my yearly mint set purchases I guess I'll have a set.

I will collect them. Its another thing to add that you can get at face value from the bank. The only thing is you probably have to wait a few years before any of them is worth anything more than $1, but thats part of the fun of collecting to me!

I definitely will collect them. I really enjoy collecting coins from "circulation". Most of my state quarters are coins that I've gotten in change. It's fun.

My plan my have a giant hole in it, in that dollar coins don't seem to circulate much.

Lol, the banks are sure to have them Just buy a roll of them, and keep two or three of them, and then deposit the rest of the dollars into your bank account so you arent spending a whole bunch of money to get a few dollar coins And most of my quarters are out of circulation too. But I keep a set that is UNC too. The curculated set is for fun.

Don't be too sure about the banks always having them. In fact the way I see us handle coins at the bank the dollar coins will be difficult to find. Most of our bank vaults have little room to stockpile $1000 boxes of $1 coins.

It's like any retail business, they wont stock things that don't move. This being said maybe these things will be kinda hard to find, great I think I just talked myself into collecting them

I went with Not willingly, but indirectly through mint and proof sets. Currently I am not sure if I will collect them. I guess it will all depend on the design that will be on the coin.

The BANKS will not have them so don't get your hopes up. We have not been able to obtain Sacagaweas in this area since 2000 and my bank tellers have asked me to get them Sackies by the roll as the main office REFUSES to call them out from the Federal Reserve. The banks DON'T want coinage and wouldn't order the first red cent if they didn't have too!
Now, as far as these new dollars are concerned, well they are another attempt by the self centered politicians to pat themselves on the back and to create a new cash cow at the U.S. Mint. Have any of you given any thought as to what a mint set or proof set will cost you next year?
Now the biggest joke of my lifetime, the spouses in gold, demonstrates how totally out of touch with the U.S. citizen and coin collectors our politicians really are! It also points out the fact they really don't give a darn what they are voting on or approving if it doesn't affect them or their immediate interests. Congress is a loose monster out of control and their continued efforts to shove politically based coins down our throat has turned me and hundreds of other U.S. collectors into foreign collecting. I am so thankful for the beauty, the culture, the history, and the nature that I have found in Canadian coins, the silver Euro commemoratives and good ole Australia coinage and now have begun searching for those classical European coins from the past that I can add to my world collection! In ending, I don't want the dead Presidents or their spouses in any way shape or form! At least the Sackie will still be made right along side of them and I will have something to continue!

I will probably end up having some of the darned things, but it won't be because I collect them. I think I'll work my US Type Set to the end of the 20th century, and no further.

crystalk64 does make good points, and I still wont be collecting these. Though I am interested in seeing how they will attempt to circulate them.

I'll collect them out of circulation and will not go out of my way to get them (Ebay, here, etc). There's a few president's that I will get an UNC for but most will just be what I get in change.

I'm pretty lucky on the bank thing. The head teller is usually willing to order anything for me without a charge == but only in minimum quantities. She's usually willing to hold the items I don't want for others who come in, but I hate to put her in that spot. She cannot request specific things like rolls of xxx quarters. She can only ask for "new" quarters and hope.

I will automatically through mint/proof sets since I get them every year for my other sets.

I will automatically collect them as they fit into my 1900-present set. How I will have to get them is the only outstanding question.

Depends totally on easy they are obtainable for a non-US person.

I have to rely on peeps I know in the US who have an extra which I can buy/trade from them.

I have the feeling that these dollar coins will circulate better as a result of the major interest in the statehood quarters. People will want to have the new president dollar and thus will ask their bank for e.g. a roll. Just as CoinJoe said, keep a few and spend the rest, which means they end up in circulation.

I will certainly collect them, the presidents that is. Should be a very interesting series; a U.S history lesson in metal, especially for today's youth, many whom don't know one president from the other. Just hope they are designed well.

So there'll be Washington quarters, dollars, and dollar notes eh? The thought of Washington on a dollar coin is kinda weird. I'll probably collect them if they happen to come my way, but I won't go out seeking 'em.

Me too. He's a favorite son of WNY. 3 of my children were born in Millard Fillmore Hospital.
