Right, and of course, when the euro cash came, the Dutch and German shopping cart coin slots had to be different yet again.

Having to use (with few exceptions only) a €1 piece in DE, and a 50 ct piece in NL, drives me nuts. And even most plastic or metal tokens work in one country alone. Welcome to Europe ...

Our shopping carts use €0.50 - €2. We have some of the kind in the link that T3 posted, but the majority are just plain.
As for a pocket piece. Nothing currently in use.

The Arch Angel Gabriel from the Annunciation. Really like I said you should have seen it before it went in the pocket.

Just silver bullion.

I carry around a Chinese (although made in Korea) charm of the period 1880-1895. It has 12 characters around the edge on both sides, and 4 characters in the middle. Of course, there is a story to go with it. The charm came from the inside of a violin, that was in the attic of a house for more than 40 years. The old house owners did not know anything about the violin when the new owners checked with them. The new owners had the violin checked out at a violin shop, and then the charm made itself known. The people didn't want the charm particularly, so the shop owner saved the piece for me- he knew I was interested in things Chinese. I spent the better part of 2 hours looking up the words in my stroke count dictionary, and finally translated it as "For 100,000 years may you enjoy the heavens above and earth below, and the bright light light of the sun and the moon."/ "For 10,000 years may you prosper, without reverse for even one year."
The inner circle's writing refers to the oldest son of a family as crown prince or as emperor. I have carried this piece around fr more than 20 years. It has worn somewhat, and also coloured quite nicely.

Currently I am carrying a UNC 1954 2 Colones from Costa Rica. It has a slight flat spot so I am able to stand it on edge. It sits on my desk at work and people can't figure why it doesn't fall over.

One of the Austrian €100,000 coins that they site in the article was up for sale on eBay last fall, it didn't make reserve, which must have been over $500,000 as the bidding stopped there. It had 1000 troy oz. If the RCM makes this $1,000,000 coin with 100 kilograms of gold, you are looking at a coin with 3215 troy oz. of gold.

I have several that I use (I keep them separate from my 'spending' coins), including a 1979-D SBA that I have carried since 1979, 2000-P Sac, a Canadian Loonie and Twonie and some assorted country Euro coins, €0.01 up to €1 (the German €1 is my 'souvenir' of the west winning the Cold War). I'll likely throw a Washington Presidential $1 in when I get some later this week and I'm still looking for a duplicate €2 to toss in.
I know, it is a lot, but they do interest me.

I carry two in my wallet. This one is my favorite. It is a Challenge Coin from the 102nd Field Artillery, the unit I went to Iraq with. It is 2 inches and 54 grams. The other one from the 793rd MP Battalion is almost as big as this one.

I have a nickel silver (german silver) coin I made in metals class (see my omnicoin) and off and on I carry a copy 1795 small eagle draped bust dollar. I don't recall a time in the last 7 or so years there wasn't at least one coin in my pocket. I had three 2 pfennigs from the 1800's in my wallet for a while, but I turned those into tie pins and lapel pins lol.

Today I bought what I call a small "Challenge Coin" at Battleship Cove in Fall River, MA. It is a USS Massachusetts Challenge Coin in my opinion, but the price tag says BB-59 Pocket Coin.
Just thought it was interesting to mention since the label says "Pocket Coin".

Didn't someone a while back say they were going to experiment with the new dollars to see how they wore? How's that going? (I ask because I was trying to do the same thing and now it's just sitting at the bottom of my change purse)
Also, I don't know if I could convince myself to keep ASE's, Peace's and WLH's with my pocket change. Every *clink* would grate on me. --> coming from someone who only has one of each <--

Why not use something more commen like an Ike like Dock, or a 1964 silver half or quarter? Even a liberty half can be had at silver from most dealers, just ask to check thier junk silver, I got a few from the teens out of the "junk" bins a few times, and recently out of the junk quarters I picked up 3 barbers, 8 standing liberty, and 12 bright blazing unc washies from the 50's. Just keep an eye out and some harder to come by coins can be had at great prices for your pocket coin.....or regular collection.

Well I've upgraded my pocket piece to pocket pieces.
Currently:
1921 Morgan - Previously polished so I'm wearing it back down to a normal look.
2006 ASE - Has a tanish color tone around the rims now. Been through the wash at least a dozen times.
1967 Kennedy - Because I can
1937 Walker - Previously cleaned. Want it back to the normal look.
Every so often I'll toss a Mercury Dime in for fun. They are great conversation pieces.
And if you are wondering, yes I carry them all at the same time, same pocket.
