I did not grade this myself. It was already marked on the 2x2. Contrary to the pic, it is a white coin.

Thanks, Linda

Lets try this again.

It looks unc, but from the photos there doesn't seem to be enough cameo contrast to warrant a PL designation.

I agree with jtryka. BU coin but not proof-like.

Nice either way.

be careful guys....this coin could very well be prooflike....the pics aren't the greatest....that's why I like to use a scanner for dollars...PL coins in the 1880's from new orleans and san fran. are somewhat common where as PL coins from philly are seen as somewhat scarce

with PL coins there is a test...

set the coin vertical and place a ruler against the coin...if you can see reflectionsof the inch marks it's at least semi prooflike

1"-2" Semi Prooflike

2"-4" is Prooflike

and 4" or more is Deep Mirror Prooflike or DMPL

check it out

Question about the test. Do I take the coin out of the holder? I did the test with the coin in the holder and can see the tick marks on the ruler to 2.

Then how do I determine the value. Red Book lists AU 50 as $20. I would assume that PL or semi PL would increase the value. Correct?
LostDutchman
semi prooflike coins don't have a lot of added value...they are just nice..prooflike coins add about %10-%20 and DMPL 's are a couple of hundred dollars

laugh.gif I can just see someone doing that at a show.

"One moment, let me get my ruler out". Good idea though. I can see how that would work.
