Here is an image of a coin that I have recently won so I don't have it on my hands right now. But the supposely text is intriduging me, not because it's worn but it's somewhat interesting!

So here is the image:

Question: What does the last two characters of the right side image seem to be?

I voted "EM". These are known with EM & KM mintmarks. ИК is mintmaster at EM (Ekaterinburg) for this year.

The coin appears unevenly struck or possibly even overstruck (although I can't imagine what the undertype might be nor am I aware of any overstriking activity in the Russian mints in 1826).

This coin is interesting. The indistinct mintmark doesn't look like the effect of wear. The coin looks out of round as well.

A higher resolution image might shed more light on the coin. It's one best viewed under a good lens.

Most definately, or else I wouldn't be asking such odd questions. smile.gif

This is the coin that I had in mind: (picture from Alexander Basok - sorry, just borrowing it for a while!)

I received the coin someday ago and completely forgot to update the details.

The mass of this coin is at 11.5grams, which makes this coin 2 grams underweight over the usual standard of 13.65grams.

Nevertheless, here is a closeup of the mintmark and mintmaster.

It seems that it is EH-NK, instead of the EM-IK. I cannot say for sure if this is either a horrible mess up in the Ekaterinburg Mint or possibly a counterfeited 2 kopek.
