Both for me too. I shift back and forth, sometimes I focus on US and sometimes I focus on World, sometimes both at the same time.

dabble in US but primarily collect World. IMHO, cheaper and more interesting over on the non-US side of things.

It started out equally but I'm beginning to lean more towward the world side. US coins are getting too high for me for what I need. No big deal though, I'm happy where my collection stands.

I started out collecting US coins and only had a few world coins. In the past year or so, the World coins have dominated my collecting and so has world paper money.
It just seems that there is more of a variety in world coins than US. And US coins have lost alot of there appeal to me.

I voted the last option, but the reality is that I mainly collect British, followed by Conder Tokens, selected medals, type sets for Canada and Australia, then a US Type Set.
Aw, hell ... I guess I want one of everything

I collect predominanty world coins. And that is usually by type with the exception of a handful where I collect by date. The US I have a few series that I collect by date and then the rest by type.

The only American coins I collect are in my change jar, only until I accumulate enough to hit the CoinStar machine. As for actually collecting for hobby, nothing from the US.

I won't participate in a poll where the Dull Side is called "Light Side".

And I collect world coins only, which includes US coins ...

Great, this is much closer than I expected!
I'm doing several type sets, of which the U.S. is one. Other than that I don't have much interest in U.S. - it's expensive!

The fifth, although I admit I should be getting into US coins soon or later. My area is starting to become very expensive and one of the very few copper coins that I need to complete my Russian copper collection is a bloody 400US+ coin

Mostly world (and not very much of that). US i tend to go here and there with, mostly the earlier 1820s and before stuff is what grabs me. But i'm a real sucker for Washington quarters. (I like SLQs as well). I like Merc dimes alot but i generally find them ugly. That girl has got a seriously protruding chin (okay not quite like Morgans). But that kind of chin thing should be left to Roman Emperors like Vespasian.
These days i seem to be buying up Roman coins and reading all things Roman (always found Rome interesting but i managed to keep it supressed for several years), if this Romanitis continues much longer i'll be adorning a purple cloak and adopting the name Little Boots.
I think it's safe to say i'm primarily a world collector.

Only US. Maybe a world coin if I visited there or it strikes my fancy. Otherwise I dont want to divert money from my real sets!

Changing my vote, previously I posted that the only USA stuff is stuff I have had for more than 15 yrs, now that has changed in the last few months. I am starting to find USA stuff agreeable again. I even bought an SF commem dollar last year.

Not really sure of the answer. I live and work in areas where the people are from everywhere on Earth. I've let many know I collect coins. Many will give me coins from thier countries. Usually I have no idea what they are, where there from, what the writting on them means but I keep them. I put them in 2x2's mostly and sort them basically by what the writting on them seams to be the same as a few others. Numerous other foreign coins go into a plastic holder and dumped into ta large box. I have virtually thousands of such coins and really have no idea of what most are. Really strange how some are half the size of our dime and some are bigger than our old silver dollars.

I collect US only, any world coins I run into I give to my wife for her collection; all she has is foreign coins that I gave her and her collection is getting quite large, two prize coins she has are:
1) a rectangular silver bar about 3/4 inch by 1/2 inch impressed with oriental characters (don't know which but could be chinese, mongolian..??) I got it in Korea in 1964 for about a dollar.
2) 2 AU, 1926 French Indo-China 20 centime pieces. My squad found a whole canister of these in a long abandoned hooch in Quang-Tri province, we split them up and each man wound up with 2. got those in 1968, haven't looked at them since.
I want to specialize in Dollar coins from the US but won't pass up anything that appeals or is a bargain.

World, specifically 1789-1815. My one US coin is an 1804 1/2 cent collected just to "have" one. Any other US coins are those I win at the monthly coin club meeting.

I voted US only. However, I do have a few World coins which were given to me. The others I gave them to a contest winner.

Fascinating distribution. I wonder how it compares to the poll I put up last month.
