Russian mining company, Arktikugol, which operates in the island of Spitzbergen(Svalbard), has issued two series's of tokens. This is the new series of 1993 which circulated only a few months because the Norwegians decided to withdraw them from circulation since their legends(SPITZBERGEN - ARKTIKUGOL / ROSSISKAYA FEDERATSIYA) might let people to belive Spitzbergen was a part of the Russia. These were the last tokens minted by Arktikugol, they were made in St.Petersburg. Arktikugol has also issued a large variety of paper tokens.
