Went to a small local show today. Spent about 2 hours there. There were maybe 25 dealers there, maybe a couple less. I try to go to this show every year. I missed last year because I was in the desert. It was pretty well attended by buyers.

Overall, it was a pretty good show. The usual suspects were there from my local area and parts of Southern Illinois. Seemed to be more slabs this year than past years. Moslty PCGS and NGC with a few ANACS around. Very few 'other' services. Lots of Morgans. Even some decent toners. Very little world stuff. Maybe 2 dealers that had anything significant in the world coins area. A bit of exonumia and a few errors. Mostly at this show you are going to find a lot of more modern stuff (Walkers, Frankies, Mercs, Buffs, Lincolns, IHC's, etc) with a number of type coins and other stuff thrown in.

I bought only a couple of things. A No Cent Lib nick and a Arrow and Rays quarter for the type set and 3 SLQ's for the 1900 to present set. I did not bust the budget by any means and walked out with money in my pocket. Part of that is because there is a very large show in StL this month that I am budgeting for.

The only thing I kick myself on is that I did not ask the price on a love token (Seated Dime) with an S on it that I saw. The guy wasn't at his table when I saw it and I forgot to get back to that table. Oh well. laugh.gif

Anyway, it is the first show I have been able to get to in over a year and it made for a pleasant morning. wink.gif

Pretty much. laugh.gif No huge loss, though, I am in no hurry to buy a love token and I am still holding out for an SJM or a KS or SK or on the way outside an MMM. If the price was right, I might have bought it though since I had extra dollars.

You could always make your own wink.gif

I can barely write my name legibly let alone make a love token. wink.gif

I've noticed at the smaller shows, sometimes with limited space, the dealers will have boxes of what you want behind them or under a back table.

Was flipping thru a folder with foreign coins looking at the 3 or 4 Portuguese coins in there, when the dealer says want to see more ? I said sure, but I thought I scouted the table out and this is all I saw. Dealer goes under a table behind him pulls out a big tote box and whips out a double 2 X 2 red box filled with Portuguese coins yahoo.gif

I've learned to ask doh.gif

Nice report Stu.

I am kind of bad about that too. I tend to just look at what is out and forget to ask for anything else. I have such a large number of coins that I need that it would take forever to ask for everything. I will do it for the occasional thing I am really hunting or remember at the time. But, I usually strike out. laugh.gif I did ask the one World Coin guy if he had any Libertads or Britannias but that was a no go.

That's what I realized, the dealers tend to keep all the "rarer" stuffs away, just in case they get stolen bleh.gif

These are moderns?? You're older then I thought.

We have a small show (that size) every month. It makes it nice cus you get to know the dealers by name and they know you. Makes for a friendlier show (and better deals)

The '83 With Cents is the hard one to find in decent condition...at least for me. I have a couple nice "Withouts" (one is UNC) but the "With" I have, is VG at best. Just too pricey at the higher grades

Nice report Stu. I love reading these

Well, more modern than most of the type stuff I was looking for anyway. laugh.gif I also collect 1900-present stuff but I wasn't actively searching... although I ended up with a couple anyway, as usual.

The show is in Anaheim. (Home of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. rofl1.gif ) I guess you could say it's roaring there.

I'm 30 min east of there.
