I am just starting to collect ship coins. The two you posted are both very nice. I like the Kontiki coin, as I have read the book a couple of times, the Chinese coin is very nice on both sides.

I know Bermuda has some coins, but in palladium, but I am not too sure. I am a Russian coin collector.

I am going to spam a few links here. tongue.gif

Russia has TOO many: (this is just a list of them)
I could have missed some too tongue.gif

I'm sure you don't want to find out the total price tag of those Russian coins if you ever wanted them... there are some that is 1kg of gold and silver coin... and one of them is a 3kg silver coin... + Russian coins are ultra ultra ultra hard to get hold of... trust me... I struggle pretty hard ti get hold of just some of them... platinum and palladium are a lot worse...

Here is one unique one that I found. smile.gif A "glass" coin featuring a Chinese junk. bleh.gif

Meh, there should be a Taiwanese coint hat depicts the Chinese junk too but I can't find it right now at the moment.

Does not look anywhere near as nice as yours smile.gif
Trantor_3
nope, itdoesn't.

But if you look on ebay for "Italy 500 Lire" in the coins section, you'l find quite some more, aslo UNC and proof, that look awsome .

But those will go for (quite) more than $0.10 ....

I bought mine in a little coin shop in Italy, last october. Dude running the shop didn't speak a single word english, french, german, dutch ,spanish and I do't speak a single word of Italian... Oh well, with hands and feet one achieves a lot wink.gif

Bermuda does have quite a fair bit actually. I am quite suprised. Most of them were minted in German mints except for the palladium one, was supposely is minted in Singapore.

I have been to the Vasa museum in Stockholm. The museum was constructed around the boat after it was brought to the surface. It is an amazing site. When you see a wooden ship like that, you can see why they were the Boeings and Airbuses of their days, yet infinitely more beautiful and intricate.
If anyone ever makes their way to that city, it is a must see IMO.

Wow, folks ... awesome coins bthumbsup.gif
I have to stick to silver, though ... the gold ones are just a wee bit too expensive for me, as well as palladium.

Tiffibunny, those proofs look awesome ... What does your lighting setup look like? I've managed a couple of "dark mirror" shots, but not as nice as yours. (If you don't mind sharing trade secrets wink.gif )
Tiffibunny
blol.gif There's no secret at all. I just put the coins on a blue book with a gooseneck lamp over it with one of those Reveal bulbs in it. Nothing fancy. Sometimes you gotta play with the angle though. Since my good lamp got thrown away sometimes I get too much gold color on the coins.

blol.gif awfully good results, though !!! I've seen proof pics from folks with $3,000 worth of camera and lighting equipment that don't look that good !!!

I'm a pretty naturalist photographer, I do photography as one of my hobbies/passions outside of coins. I find the more complicated doodads you use the harder it is to make a good photograph. I like simplicity. A good camera helps too. And zoom is a must. I know exactly what notch I have to have on the zoom for it to work right.

You know, I had a good laugh with this coin here:

http://www.arcamax.ru/files/au/100/1996-00100-2-900-014.htm

While most of the ship coins depicted here are ancient or "old" boats, that coin up there is a bit way too modern... bleh.gif
