In looking at the picks the note with serial 00169859A looks like it was stamped DUPLICATE was this a fake note?

yes it was stamped duplicate, but it was an original note.....I had to check on that too... I really don't know why they stamped that note like that....but it was a real note.

Ouch... so it is on the note and not the cover... I was hoping it was the cover.
I wonder if that was done by a govt agency or third party. I cant think of any reason to stamp that on a $1000 bill.

I can't either, the gentleman who bought them is a currency expert and we poured over that bill for like 20 min....it's definitely real.

nope, they did have the blue and red threads...but that is it....no strips

I think the first security threads on US notes was on the series 1990 $100 bill, though I can't recall if the did those on the lower demoninations in 1990 or in the series 1993.

Perhaps some past collector marked all his doubles and extras "duplicate"? There are some odd folks who mutilate their collectibles.
