Like many of us, I am an obsessive change checker. You ever notice the looks you get from cashiers? Hey, it's not that I think you short-changed me, I just want to see if you gave me any gifts.

It's been pretty dry, but last week this was handed to me. One of 24.7 million minted and 58 years old...now retired from duty...thank you.

I've probably received like 3 47's in the past month, but never an S, or anything in that good of condition. Great find!

Last night customers brought me a nearly-dead merc, and a few New Zealand coins.

Oddly enough a lady gave me $1 in rolled wheat pennies to pay for a drink. Needless to say I gave my boss $1 in quarters in exchange for the pennies smile.gif Most are pretty nasty but there are a few rather nice coins.
Art
Nothing new here. Not even a decent Statehood Quarter. hi.gif
papadoc
i had a $5 star note the other day but i had to spend it.. ah well
Grifter
Ok, so I was in Starbucks with my mom, and I look in the tip thing, and I see an Oregon quarter, in very nice condition, almost as if it had just been taken out of the roll. So, we get our drinks and go sit down. I tell my mom about the coin, and she gives me a quarter to go get it. I just couldn't do it for some reason, it just felt so weird. So I didn't do it, and my mom offered to do it for me, so I let her. This is sad, but I didn't even know that the Oregons had come out yet.

Yesterday, my friend saved me an old $20 bill in his register. So awesome. I love old money.

Lol, while at work, my friend had to break open a roll of dimes, and when he did, he said like 10 pennies came out of it. He exchanged some of his money for some and he brought some of them home to show me. Someone had filed down the penny so that it was the size of a dime. I just laughed.
Burks
Not a coin but I'm sure you will enjoy it.

At work I was counting the money and noticed an odd bill. Sure enough, $10 star note! I know it isn't worth much but it has been 6 years since I ran across a star note in circulation. Needless to say I replaced it with a normal $10 bill and it is now mine (boss didn't care).

You must be lucky. The past two weeks I've sorted through nearly $20k in cash and not one star note other than the one I found.

Star notes! When I'm filling in for one of the tellers at the bank, I come across so many * notes I don't even look anymore, $1 thru $100.

Used to buy all the AU+ looking ones, but after seeing so many I just don't give it a second thought...
Grifter
I looked through all of my cash and I found one star note. I'm just wondering, but why did they make star notes?
Ætheling
Nothing yesterday, nothing today and nothing tomorrow. There really is just nothing in change worth searching for. No 2005s yet either, not that i'm that bothered.

Star notes come from the mint smile.gif When the original bill is messed up during production, or is used for testing they throw it out. Well, they cant have missing serial numbers, so they reprint the bill with the same serial number, but they take the letter off the end, and add a * there.

And all the talk about star notes reminds me of a sad story at the bank one day. I was with my mom and she was cashing my dad's pay check. And in the $100 bills, there were 2 star notes!!!! But I didn't get to keep them sad.gif So I was sad lol.

The_Cave_Troll
