2002 50 Euro cent Austria. My daughter again from work.
Dockwalliper

7 mem cents
2 Canadian cents
1 Canadian dime
1 Namco game token
1 English new penny
thedeadpoint
so everyone always finds things in CoinStars. The only time I use them is when I'm too lazy to wait for the bank teller to rewrap my searched rolls. Therefore I know exactly what is in those rolls and what the CoinStar rejects.

How do you guys not know what you are putting in the coinstar assuming it is your already-searched change? Or are you looking in some secret compartment that others don't look in after depositing their change.
Scottishmoney
You would be amazed how many people never check the reject trays in the coin counting machines, I find coins all the time, the last was a Malaysian cent from 1996. But I have found wheat cents, silver dimes, lots of Canadian coins etc.
TreasureGirl
So, where is the reject tray?

I wish there was a CoinStar somewhere in Rolla; there was one at my old grocery store at my folks' house but I never knew there was a reject tray and I could potentially find silver in it.

See the square hole in the centre of the machine - that is where all the goodies are. Just agree to search only the ones in Missouri and not here and all is well. grin.gif

I have trained my family, even my Grandson, to always check the CoinStar return and bring the coins to Papa.

Yeah, you better get out of the way when my 12 yr old daughter(loves money bthumbsup.gif ) is on the way out of the store. She will run you over.
Dockwalliper
2 more Canadian Dimes in the CoinStar tonight.
BiggAndyy
I tried to be sneaky the other day. The bottoms of the reject bins are hard metal so when the reject coins hit bottom the make a loud racket and folks look down to notice the hitherto fore unnoticed reject bin.

I put a square piece of felt on the bottom of my local Coinstar machine reject bin the other day. When I checked back that evening not only were there no coins but the felt was taken as well smile.gif
Scottishmoney
Next time take an appriately sized piece of rubber, then superglue it to the bottom of the reject tray. bthumbsup.gif
Dockwalliper
I noticed that theres abetter chance of coins in the reject if the store is busy and loud.
Request that the machine be moved to a noisy part of the store.
Dockwalliper
Maybe we should start a "Found in the CoinStar" thread.

Today in change I recieved a blank penny. It was just a planchet. It has a raised rim, but no Mr. Lincoln and no Memorial. Looked like it had been circulating a few years... can't believe I was the first to grab it.

That is cool when you find one of the old style notes especially with an early date. I have gotten some of the 1928-1934 $20's at the bank, but not lately.
Mark Stilson
2 - 2000 P sacawagea dollars. Thing is they look like the were freshly broken out of rolls.
thedeadpoint
2004 $20 star

I had to handle very large sums of money today and I got the urge to look through everything. Oddly, that star was the only interesting note in the bunch.

I've never found a star note before, only bought them. Well, I guess I'm about to shell out $20 of my own money to give it a new home.

In the past week I have found:

1985 $50 bill - cool because I graduated high school in '85, and have a $1,$5, and $10 from '85 also.
1950D Wheat cent
1942 War Nickel found in my dryer (no, I wasn't cleaning it) grin.gif

And seven years from now we'll be finding Washingtons like that...

P.S. I have never found a War nickel in circulation. Two silver dimes and a silver quarter, but no War nickels. cry.gif
thedeadpoint
Oooh... war nickels are my favorite to find. Besides the penny, old jeffs are the best looking worn circulation pieces.
BiggAndyy
No, a nice VG or F Morgan is the best circulated numismatic piece ever. But for current circulating coins, none of them are great. Worn Franklins of days gone by were nice looking as well as Liberty Nickels. Maybe the Jefferson is OK, but nothing like our turn of the 20th century coinage for graceful aging.

Well, if we're talking about of all coins (I was just talking about the Jeff, roosie, lincoln, and washington), then my vote is for barber coinage that shows beautiful wear at all grades.

BTW Vfox, nice $50! Wish I'd find one like that!

This shouldn't really count, but I was buying 2x2's and the store didn't really have change (weird, eh?) After some digging around, I ended up with

1959 1c VF+
1961 1c MS60
1962 1c MS60CAM
1963 5c VF-
1972 5c AU

Got this in change at Babies R Us this afternoon, funny thing was a survey printed for a Satisfaction with the transaction! Now of course I am satisfied, because not only did I get a 48 yr old coin, but one with a neat little die crack at the back of Lincoln's head, giving him a little curly cue at the back of his hair.
BiggAndyy
Just got this guy in change. My questions are:

IPB Image

What are the diagnostics for the 1938 rev vs the 1940 rev?
What are the diagnostics for the 1939 Doubled Monticello?
Scottishmoney
Searched 2.500 cents today for the pre-1982 bronzes and came up with about
1/4 bronze and the following fringe benefits;

1925 in VF!
1941-S
1944
1947-S
1950-D
1952-D
1954-D
1955
1956-D
1957-D
1958-D
1969-S
1971-S x 2
1972-S
1974-S

It seems like I get about 1 early pre-1940 for every 2.500 cents, in one
search a couple of months ago I got a 1910 and then a 1919-S.
BiggAndyy

Received my first SQ of the year. I like this one - reminds me of the 1935 Old Spanish Trail commemorative half.

Today I went to the bank to get into my safe deposit box and the coin counting machine is right next to the boxes in the vault, so I spied what I though was silver in the plastic bag of halves, so I bought all $40 they had and landed me a nice toned 1964 Kennedy!
UncleBobo
Two well circulated 1963 nickles, at the same time.
Vfox
An Unc 58-D wheatie, no doubt liberated from someones collection. Won't see me complaining about a red unc wheatie in change though lol.
Topher
I tend to find a higher percentage of wheat cents here in Canada, than I ever did in the US. In fact, I've found more wheat cents in circulation in the 4.5 years I've been in Canada than I ever found in almost 3 decades in the US. I think the Canadians just go: "bleh, American penny" and pass it along, whereas the average American might see it and go "neat, I'll save this one". That being said, I got a 1947ML Canadian penny, a couple of 2 Euro cent coins, and a 1 cent Bahamian coin in this past weeks change. Not a bad week overall.

Similarly I have found a lot of older QEII cents, and even GVI cents in change here in the USA. I got a 1958 cent just the other day.

My earliest non roll search circulation find in a while, a 1934 Lincoln in VF at a party store.

My change from the stamp machine at the USPS....apparantly they loaded it with GWDs but a stray SBA showed up and not a SAC in the bunch.
