Sir Sisu
I finally found the early holy grail of circulating Finnish euro coinage today in change: a 2000 €0.20 piece!!!! yahoo.gif

(for those not familiar with this see the following mintage details.)
Dan769
Nice find! Are those mintage figures in thousands?

Technically no, they are in the millions. Here a comma is used where a decimal point is used in the States. So the figure for this particular year is (in US format) .5 million.

However, you can look at it as though it is in the thousands and it will jwork basically the same except for the very last Total figure.
Rabone
A 1965 U.S. quarter. Pulled it and will retire it from circulation after 40 years.

The other day i finally managed to get my first 2004 Trevithick £2 coin. Only took me how long to find one? It can now be spent again...

Other than that, still nothing interesting and no 2005's either. Collecting from change really is dull round these parts.
Burks
Today we were slow at work so I decided to go through the change. To my surprise there was a 1943 Nickel in there. I'd say it would be in F/VF condition. As Rabone said, I will retire it from service.

Very nice.

Add a 1940 Jefferson to my list of latest finds. It is in Fine condition and got it back as change from cash and a drink.
Dan769
Jeffersons are an amazing series, it's the only US coin that you can still find key dates in circulation, and the silver war years also. Finding coins in the 40's & 50's is somewhat common when searching rolls.
Tiffibunny
Yeah, I get black war nickels at least twice a year.
28Plain
There are key date Jeff's?
ccg
Got a '69S Jeff in my change pile. Not sure when I got it, though.
Trantor_3
2002 Greece 2 euro cent "plain" i.e. one made in Greece and not in another country
ovrundr
found a 54D and a 54S nickels in my change today. Yesterday found a 1918 wheatie. The date is barely readable but it can be made out.

I was at the 99 cent store when I saw a Sac in the drawr, I asked the lady how many she had. Turns out she had 6 Sacs (2000, 5D 1P) and 5 SBAs (1979, 2P, 2D and an S).... SWOOOP!

Got some new trade material ninja.gif

Also I got my first 2005 Finnish €2 today!

you found that in change???????? shok.gif

wow, I'm surprised it made it all the way to Suomi, since you're a bit isolated from the rest of euro countries.

When I was in finland I obviously looked very close at the change I received and I couldn't find much foreign euro coins in it. The only ones that were a bit common were german coins, if I remember well.

Here in The Netherlands, we're almost at the stage than more than 40% of our change is not dutch..... And that 's even worse for notes, there we already passed the 50% line, according to http://www.eurobilltracker.com/

My latest circulation find(s)
I was playing with my camera so I've included photos...

a 1947-d dime. I love getting silver.

user posted image

The very worst quarter I have ever gotten. a 199(6)? some areas of the design are so flattened that you literally can't feel any of it.

Finally, my favorite, a 1968-s nickel. This is my first circulated proof find.

Are you sure that's a proof?

in those days "S" mint didn't automatically mean "proof", as far as I know

1968 "S" is listed in my Krause as normal strike, not as proof. Mintage is 103,437,510. That would be an awfull lot of proofs....

Whoops!
My Bad!
I thought that the only circulation coins minted by the S mint in '68 were pennies.
They are the only one's that were put into the mint sets...
Mediccoin
Cool pics and great finds.

Nothing exciting, just a '63 5c (most of the young head ones still pop up now and then, though they're slowly disappearing)

I have a part time job in sales, and operate a cash register. The only thing I have bought out of the register were a 1964 dime and 5 Wheats, but I see early 1940's Jeffs( no silver though, I would buy those) all the time, but give them out in change.
Burks
Over the past few months I have saved all my change in a bucket and decided today to go through it. Probably 5lbs worth of pennies, nickels, and dimes (I use quarters to wash my cars).

Talk about some nice finds!

1959 Penny - EF-AU, has a reddish tone to 50-60% of the coin.
1919 Wheat Penny - VG-F condition, oldest find to date.
4 (yes 4) 1943 Nickels - All at least VG.
7 Silver Dimes

Next month I am going to dump out ~40lbs of change that my family has collected over 15 years. My dad has about 10lbs in his room and I have about 30lbs in my room. Maybe there will be some coins in there that some of you need.

I'm praying for the coin that could pay for my college education. If I find it there will be a lot of yahoo.gif and drinks.gif going on.

The weekend of July 4th, I looked through $100 in halves and found 7 40% silver one (1966-69) and a 1963-D Franklin! I love finding silver!

When I first saw this I was stunned before I realized you were talking about the 2005 Canadian Victory Nickel.

A US '05 V nickel is a completely different animal and something that would never be found in circulation.
Scottishmoney
Somehow a 1957 nickel managed to sneak past the security apparatus and find it's way into our Ukraine Fund jar. It had to be bailed out ten times face.
Burks
1922 Canadian Nickel - Great condition. I'll try to get pictures tomorrow. I love the looks of it too.

Went through about 1000 cent from the bank this weekend..
1 1998 wide am
1 1998 appear to be a brass plated cent,,, yellow.
1 1998 off center strike,,, about 30% off,,, first one I've found like this in circulation ever other than the more normal 4 to 5% off cents.
4 wheat cents
and about 200 pre 1982 coppers that I threw in the pile.

Still looking for that 1999 wide am,,, 1992d near am,,, 1984 d/d or 1983 d/d..... ya'll think there are any of these left in circulation,,,,, that is other than the 1 or 2 that might make it out there when jr robs the penny jar and buys that stick of bubble gum?
Sir Sisu
I received another Greece €2 Athens Olympic commemorative today. biggrin.gif

A poppy quarter. Only the second I've got in change, and the first since November.

Never? Well, technically, not found in change, but mine was found. About two weeks ago I was cleaning out some trash for an 85 year-old woman who was selling her house. There was an old (read that as OLD) couch that was stored in an attic above the detached garage and tossed onto the lawn waiting to be removed. It had rained, so it got wet. It was also in rough shape, breaking apart as I picked it up to put into the truck. As I was cleaning up the debris I noticed a round disc on the ground. From the color I thought it may have been a 2¢ piece. It turned out to be a 1908 Liberty nickel.

I showed it to the woman and asked if she or her late husband collected. She said he dabbled in it for a while in their early years, but lost interest. I offered to take it home, grade it, and buy it from her. She basically said, "No, it's yours if you want it. Finders keepers."

I let it sit in vinegar overnight to get the crud off it (no damage) and carried it in my pocket change to do some natural "cleaning." I would grade it as VG-8, worth about $1. Nothing expensive, but a cool find, just the same.

Yep, an '08 nickel is a cool find wherever it turns up. It's unusual but not unheard of for a V nickel to turn up in circulation.
BiggAndyy
While it is not uncommon to get a Canadian Cent in change down here in Pittsburgh this is the first time I got a 1944 George VI Cent.
Trantor_3
The Netherlands 5 euro cent 2005, the first 2005 I see in circulation here

My Buddy MrWhite gave me a 1945p wheaty and two very nice looking 2005 D Minnesoda SQs. One looks like it has a dual die crack, cant wait to scan it and check it out!

Going through a cash drawer at work, several Philly nickels from the 1940's and 50's, nothing too special, and a couple of common 1940's wheats, all of which will be unleashed on an unsuspecting customer.

Several times I have noticed members saying they have a 'connection' at a place of business or bank.

Did you (or any of our members) make your connection through an existing friend or did you work up the nerve to make a connection with a total stranger?

I don't know anybody who handles lots of coins who doesn't already save them theirselves.

Does anyone have ideas on making new connections and which ones seem to be the best?
